Hmm. I'd imagine Martin uses a wood lathe to craft 1-piece dual-sided buttons from excess pieces.

So, gluing two suitable diameter wood plugs should work, or two plugs with a wood disc in-between; properly prepped wood and Titebond.

Lots of options for wood plugs and discs online.
