$189 isn't exactly earth shattering. I doubt I could tell the difference in my R9, but fairly inexpensive mod. Seems logical Wildwood will start specifying these pots in their Custom shop Gibsons. They like to add some special sauce here and there.

Does it depend on how it is wired? Audio signal does not pass through Caps to the output, they simply set the frequency that is shunted to ground via tone pot. I don't see how they would have any affect on tone other than which frequency is affected. Only the tolerances of said caps would affect frequency thus tone.

in theory you are correct but in real life they are a filter and thus effect tone...........I have recently gone through some of my guitars for the second time upgrading using mostly the throbak kits and have seen a marked improvement every time........the fifties wiring is part of it too......with a LesPaul I live in the middle position and use the pots to dial in my sound........if you play on the bridge with the volume/tone dimed it will make very little difference........

Ok. Is the tone improvement from the pots though or the design of the caps? Makes sense I guess in that respect. Yup I'm the latter.

yes.........the pots with the 50's wiring is where the Jeanie hides.........another interesting note is that pot values as they age get higher.......ie a 50's 500k pot today might be over 600k..........

Ah very interesting! Good to know. I just see a fair amount of "snake oil" caps that IMO mean very little to nothing in the grand scheme of all of it, if that is all that is changed.

I guess I'm getting old. I had two strokes last Fall, and it's slowed me down, a bit. Then again, I'm 78 this year, so there are those who claim I am old!

Well, I made it through a heart transplant in 2022, we all slow down after stuff like that.
