What gauge strings are you using?

What exactly don't you like about Elixirs? I've tried lots of different strings for acoustic and haven't found anything better than Elixir mediums. I haven't tried that many strings for electric. I know I like Elixirs better than Blue Steel, but I don't understand why you people think they are so bad... ?

To me, they have a "woofy" attack, and a nasal peak in the highs and the upper mids......
I'm not too keen on the feel either.
I'm also a big fan of the Pyramid strings - for 2 years, I used .011's on all my electric, but I've moved down to .010's recently - I think that I prefer the sound, but I've not made up my mind yet.
I definitely prefer D'Addario EXP's over Elixirs for acoustic, but I just don't like the sound or feel of coated strings (but the Gibson Hydrophobic electric set aren't too bad).

Holy thread resurrection, Batman! Just thought we didn't need a new one...

Old age and arthritis being the mother of this invention, I have to say I'm really enjoying D'Addario, coated 9.5's after years of 10's.

Also saw a Rick Beato vid where they tried 3 or 4 different gauges. To my ears, you had to get down the 8's to make a real sonic difference.

Anyway, happy new year, folks.

Mostly 9-46 or 10-46 pure nickel or NPS. Except for my hollow Gretsches and Gibson L4-CES what I use 11-49 or 11-50 on. Want to really drive the top on those.

Super Slinky at this point. Older age fingers.... started cramping on 10's a few years back.

I use 11-52s on all my Gibsons. I have used the normal ernie balls for the last 10 years but recently switch to d'addario NYXLs. They are very bright, but they last a lot longer than the normal XLs. I guess I will find out in a few months how they last compared to the cheaper ernie balls.

I was so confused when I clicked on this 2 page thread from the "new posts" section to be greeted by a post from 2003 haha

Focal Dystonia and age have caught me. Transitioning 10s on Gibsons and 9.5s on Fenders. Dropping a gauge to 9s and 8.5s.

10-46 on most standard tuning guitars
11-52 on any tuned a 1/2 step down as pretty much feel the same as 10-46 in standard tuning.
10-52 on my Junior as it's mainly a rhythm machine
Now and again 9-46 on a vintage guitar if frets are a little low

Came a step down from 11-49s to 10-46s Daddario or Ernie Ball on all of my guitars, even Strat. A bit easier bending and easier playing, a bit more percussive attack at a cost of a bit thinner tone.

I usually use the same size they come with from the factory. It's worked out pretty good so far and takes the guess work out of it.

9-42 for Fenders, 10-46 for Gibsons, 11-50 for Gretsch hollows (they come with 11-49s from the factory) and 10-46 for Gretsch Jets.
