Today was a good day, today was a bad day.
I received these two guitars in the mail today.
One was a gem, one was a fem. Can you tell
which one and why? Do you see the Ultimate
Sin that I obviously missed when I purchased
the guitar in question? And no it has nothing
to do with the parts or scales. I hope I can
get bailed out of this bad bad situation.

What's the deal with the extra cutaway on the bottom bout?? Higher fret access?

Well, one has extra wood cut off in the lower horn.... someone tried to get a little further extension up the fretboard.

edit, missed the comment about the scales...

Stinger on a TV Model. That could be cool. Or, maybe not, I guess.

Also two missing fretboard markers on the TV Jr.?

Naw that's nothing, just pearl 1/4" dots.
I've got lots of those.

The second guy got it right. The 3/4 scale
junior has wood taken out of the treble
cutaway, and the pickguard is cut accordingly.
Which really sucks because like, how do you
fix that?

I really should know better buying a 3/4
junior. but i was buying it for the value
of the parts, so i figured i could not go
wrong. but apparently i'm freaking blind
because they sent me pictures with the
treble cutaway clearly cut.

To make matters worse, they packed the
guitar incorrectly and against my instructions,
and the peghead got a slight crack in it
during shipping. They were trying to be good,
had the guitar there and ready when the
money showed up via Fedex, and then
handed the guitar right to the fedex guy for
shipping to me, before reading my packing
instructions. the guitar was shipping at
A440 pitch with 10s. *sigh*

So now i have a junior 3/4 door stop.
i'll probably just strip the parts off and
turn the rest into one snow shoe.

parts breakdown:
-wrap around bridge and studs, $500?
-tuners, $100?
-truss rod cover, $50?
-2 knobs, $100
-pots and bumble bee, $200?
-p90 pickup and cover, $150?
-3/4 alligator case, $50?
-nut?
so that's $1150. in theory i've broke even.
but why do i do this to myself?

On the plus side, the TV junior was pretty
good. Heck i've never seen a stinger on a
Junior (original serial number and all too).
i needed the output jack plate and rear
control plate, so the red 3/4 donated that
to the TV. So i guess in a way, it was good
i got the messed up 3/4.

They poorly pack it, and deliver it with a headstock crack. :wah

Why do you have to keep it? :hmm

It was bought from a "civilian", not a dealer.
when i tell someone i'm gonna buy something,
i buy it. i don't return it. it's my fault. i should
have been more clear on the phone that they
needed to wait to pack it, or go over the packing
on the phone. Also i should have saw that cutaway
modification. i was freakin drunk or something!

I haven't read anything in this thread that indicates it was your fault.
What you wrote clearly indicates it is their fault.

They were just trying to be pro-active, have
it all packed up on their own, and send it
ASAP. i can never get mad at people for trying
to do the right thing, even if it's NOT the right
thing in the end.

So how does the 3/4 Junior sound and play? You haven't said anything about that. If it sounds great and you have that extra access to the upper frets why not just play it and enjoy it?:salude

...because it's 3/4 scale. it plays weird, short scale guitars are good for kids and not me.

You could strip the original parts and sell it on ebay with repro parts.

Here's some additional pics showing the cutaway modification.
Also the "V" peghead crack can be seen (it is hard to see, but
it's there). It's probably a good idea to strip the parts and
re-populate with reissue stuff, and then sell it off on ebay.
But sometimes you just want to be done with the whole
afair and move on. A friend bought it for a small price.
I recover my costs and expenses, got 2 small parts i needed,
and pass it on to someone that might just make it a real
guitar again. I have no problem doing that. I'm just
happy i didn't have to eat the expenses, and fight with Fedex.

Maybe we should concentrate more on the 'star' of the day:

$1150 - you can even do better than that for the parts.

But why strip it - that's a pretty cool Jr for your local jam. Take it out of its gig bag, disregard those howls of derisive laughter, and then rock everyone's pants off.

Clay, I'm not trying to fight you on this. :)
I just think it is any seller's responsibility to deliver the goods undamaged, unless other arrangements are made.
At some point, I suspect the damage could have been severe enough [snapped neck at the 7th fret or...] that you would have handled it differently.

Once again [as Clay has indicated], it's a 3/4 model. They don't feel and play the same as a full size model.
My 56 was better sounding than most of my full size Juniors, but it wasn't fun to play. :)

They are tiny and I mean tiny guitars. I keep mine at bedside and I love it. If there is any Spam in the thread, send it my way.

here's mine:

I'd like to buy something like it for my grandson, and he's a lefty and he'll be 5 in a couple of months.

if you've not sold it, put it up on the LPF classifieds and let's see what it would take.

I'd be RS Guitarworks'ing the bloody beast anyway.
