• Guys, we've spent considerable money converting the Les Paul Forum to this new XenForo platform, and we have ongoing monthly operating expenses. THE "DONATIONS" TAB IS NOW WORKING, AND WE WOULD APPRECIATE ANY DONATIONS YOU CAN MAKE TO KEEP THE LES PAUL FORUM GOING! Thank you!

I thought they were releasing this guitar as the Les Paul Traditional?

Finally, factory strap-locks! What's up with that input jack? It looks like it has a cap of some sort over it.

Only ebony and gold top? Gimme one in honeyburst!

All in all, looks like Gibson has listened to players and made some nice improvements.

lots of interesting things going on there.
Neutrik locking input jack
strap locks.
new tenon (might be better than the old long tenon-yeah, i said it)
plain maple under gold and black, "Plus" top on other colors.
PLEK
assymetrical neck
"standard" TRC
locking grover tuners
tonepros locking ABR1 (not sure what locks on it)
tonepros locking tailpiece.
MF site says nickel hardware, but Gibson site says chrome.
gold-plated Bourns-designed pots (never heard of it, but i see plenty of future threads about that one)
btw, this is all a mixture of the MF site and Gibson's info on their site.

the gibson website actually lists the standard and the 2008 standard as differnt models.... they haven't discontinued the regular one yet.

lots of interesting stuff there. they really fixed a lot of the things people around here didn't like. there will of course be people that are pissed about the chambering or the dunlop straplocks instead of schaller, but overall i think they did a VERY good thing here.

i just noticed something. use the "360" function on the gibson website. do you really think the cover for the control cavity can be seen through like that? the pics of the standard are different.... normal. on the '08 standard it looks translucent.

Im impressed. Improving the regular std line and getting the logo right on the Historic GT's (assuming this shows up on more than the JB Sig Model) are things that I was embarassed that Gibson hadn't gotten around to fixing yet.

Kudos to anyone from Gibson who is tuning in.

Twilightzone tenon...i don't get it. :wah

well, it makes it function closer to a dovetail joint. or similar...... a real locking joint instead of just slid in. it also actually gives more square inches of contact than even a long neck tenon.

If Gibson doesn't fix the other GT's after now they have a manufacturing process for that logo, ....

I might mail them a bag of dog poop. I kid, I kid. Ok, RUBBER dog poop.

that's cool... and the wireless ABR1. perhaps a lead in to some very cool stuff in the near future.

Now if they'd only do something about re-enforcing the headstock so that a fall from a guitar stand won't be catastrophic.

:hmm

maybe a Volute!

Of course! One of the better ideas from the Norlin years.

Say what they want about those old Norlin LPs, but I've seen footage of Townshend having to work to smash 'em!
