• Guys, we've spent considerable money converting the Les Paul Forum to this new XenForo platform, and we have ongoing monthly operating expenses. THE "DONATIONS" TAB IS NOW WORKING, AND WE WOULD APPRECIATE ANY DONATIONS YOU CAN MAKE TO KEEP THE LES PAUL FORUM GOING! Thank you!

Funny how they always quit right at the moment the proof ends.

Back then it was a level playing field, all could take the shit without the testing. My main gripe, all the other sports started testing in the late 80's, baseball was ignorant to think it wasn't in the game then. The Commish drew a blind eye.

On the radio this morning, I heard him say that he decided to own up and tell the truth because he owed it to his 'fan'.

Anyway, they can't do too much to him, except to maybe keep him out of the Hall of Fame for a while. Steroids were legal back in the years he was taking them.

I'm not a wiz on this, but I think what you mean here is something like "weren't specifically against the rules of MLB then". I'm pretty sure that anabolic steroids got rolled into the Controlled Substances Act in about 1991, and their non-prescription use a federal crime in the years he was taking them (maybe).

Clay you are right, the law changed when the Feds and company went after steroid dealers thinking that they were directly related to the recreational drug pushers dealer such as Pot, cocain, Heroin etc... They found out the contrary. But the law did change in 91 making them a class III controlled substance. I personally think that was stupid and a waste of taxpayers money. The underground market boomed and tons of fakes sprouted up. Testing should have been in place a long time ago, I blame the commish and any higher up Baseball regulatory positions. Stupid and naive.

I am not hear to judge about the cheating, Hall of Fame etc... I am pissed that the names on the list got out. It was supposed to be locked up and kept a secret. Until all those 111 names are put out, it's totally unfair just to slam A-Rod. I think there will be widespread lawsuits going on forever. Guys taking speed to get through a double header in the 70's 80's etc... were never talked about or put up on the general public trial like this stuff.

Sometimes I can't help thinking that they should just let it all slide and start fresh today. Most of those players didn't understand their wrongdoing and the implications at the time anyway. And A-Rod was pretty cool about his admission, saying that even though he lied to Catie Couric and to the fans, he was in denial and lying to himself as well. At least he could admit that.

We have to remember, though, that this is not "slamming A-Rod." The leak went to this woman/writer who was digging up everything she could on A-Rod because she is writing a book specifically focusing on him, I believe. When viewed in that context, then it makes sense that only A-Rod's name is out there.

A list guys always get hit the hardest don't they. At least he admitted and now we can move on. In the scheme of things of todays society, not very important is it.

Not to beat a dead horse.... but all he's admitted to is taking "a banned substance" and "pretty much" in 2001, 2002 and 2003 (prompted by Peter Gammons) -- but he "doesn't know which one". Sports Illustrated reports specific alleged substances from the leaked results.

I dunno... not really trying to be a stickler here, but I do think that since baseball has a fan base that celebrates and cherishes it's individual stats and records, this stuff is a very deep betrayal of the fundamental ideals upon which that storied history stands. Not just by Rodriguez and the other juiced players, but the agents, the owners, the commissioner, the media... the whole ball game is guilty of squandering its legacy and failing to deal with the taint. Will it lead to reduced ticket sales or ad revenue? I highly doubt it. But it still sucks, imho.

"It breaks your heart. It is designed to break your heart. The game begins in the spring, when everything else begins again, and it blossoms in the summer, filling the afternoons and evenings, and then as soon as the chill rains come, it stops and leaves you to face the fall alone." -- Bart Giamatti

YEA...A/R; he admitted it AFTER he got busted for it.

i watched his *apology* a few times. Seemed very insincere to me.

so if he felt so bad about it, why did it take 6+ yrs to say sorry?

sorry, bro, don't buy it.

AND, IMO, every stat/record that anyone using should have astericks next-to their name in the HOF

..which begs the question to be asked, 'should the Babe have a * next to his name b/c he was prob drunk most of the time?':hmm

it's a slippery slope for sure

I never saw alcohol as much of a performance enhancer or muscle strengthener. :hee

If it was, I'd be the Babe by this time.

And what's he sorry about? Doing roids or getting caught? That shouldn't be hard to figure out.:lol

He's certainly not sorry about the millions of dollars the roids have made him over the years.
