• Guys, we've spent considerable money converting the Les Paul Forum to this new XenForo platform, and we have ongoing monthly operating expenses. THE "DONATIONS" TAB IS NOW WORKING, AND WE WOULD APPRECIATE ANY DONATIONS YOU CAN MAKE TO KEEP THE LES PAUL FORUM GOING! Thank you!

NOS tubes in a Vox Night Train? Overkill?

I recently got some more NOS Brimar's and a Telefunken (12ax7s) from Bluesforstevie. Thanks BFS and it was a pleasure doing biz with you. If you havet bought tubes from Dan (bluesforstevie)...be sure to contact him.

I've been thinking of popping these new tubes in my Vox night train.

I have NOS tubes in my Marshall DSL. I dont have any in my EVH 5150 III head but I dont really want to mess with that head because it just sounds perfect as it is.

Would it be a sacrilege to put NOS tubes in the Vox NT? Should I just leave the NOS tubes alone and hold onto them for another use someday?

I guess I've got the NOS tubes and want to use them instead of sitting in the box.

What do you think?

There's really no harm in throwing them in the Night Train. I wouldn't use NOS EL84's in it as the new Vox amps are known to chew up power tubes, but I personally run all NOS in the preamp of my AC30. Got a couple of Siemens & Halske tubes in V1/V2 and a Mullard in V3. Sounds leagues better over the stock Shuguang tubes.

Thanks Frankie. I currently have Tung Sols in the Night Train. I'd love to pop the NOS tubes in the EVH 5150 III but the freakin thing takes 8 12ax7s anyway and I dont have enough NOS tubes to replace them all.

I'll pop the Telefunkin in V1 and the brimar in V2 and see how it sounds.

Thanks
