• Guys, we've spent considerable money converting the Les Paul Forum to this new XenForo platform, and we have ongoing monthly operating expenses. THE "DONATIONS" TAB IS NOW WORKING, AND WE WOULD APPRECIATE ANY DONATIONS YOU CAN MAKE TO KEEP THE LES PAUL FORUM GOING! Thank you!

Beautiful guitar. I remember that issue, don't know where the poster is now. I wonder what the value of it was back in Oct. '82.

According to the text, Burst values were twenty to forty times $247.50, i.e. $5-10k in those days.

I recall seeing bursts in Guitar Trader (mid-late 80s) as high as $30-50K

I've got that poster up in my shop. It came from the original issue I got in `82. Great stuff!

As Mr. Ganzler has often remarked, the 9-0600 series contains some truly remarkable maple.

I sold 30 or more from 1985 to 1995, so I remember the times when $20K+ became the norm. :)

Shucks - I guess I must be the only one who had this poster up for some time and then threw it away.

No, not likely. Unfortunately, this and many Farrah Fawcett and Zeppelin posters probably ended up in land fills around the world eventually! 🙃

I know the history of this 59. I owned her from 84 to 2000. Bob and l renamed her Curly Gates six serial numbers from the famed Pearly gates ,yes Billy has played it and I have recorded with it sound as good as she looks. She spent her whole life in the case. The finish is perfect no dings scratches or fading etc .. One of the last built 9 0639 if memory serves me right. I have pictures of her with my 58 special will post them soon there in the attic. Truly one of a kind!

As I recall some folks think it gives greater sustain......tried it once myself with an inconclusive result.

I’m not sure about the extra thumb wheels. I had two others one 59 burst and a 57 gold top with humbuckers the back of the tuning head was black on the 57 both of these were players they all would sustain indefinitely but the neck pickup in curly was the best any of us had ever heard. Bob was a dealer out of Phoenix he would know the answer unfortunately he passed several years ago. He had his hands on most of them but when we would get Curly out at my Christmas parties and played in the back room he couldn’t stop smiling or put her down. He always said this is the Mona Lisa of the Guitar World! That being said maybe the extra nuts had something to do with it. Whoever built her must of been proud of there work and all of the owners of her knew it would be shame not persevere this work of art. I was truly blessed to watch over her during my turn.
