• Guys, we've spent considerable money converting the Les Paul Forum to this new XenForo platform, and we have ongoing monthly operating expenses. THE "DONATIONS" TAB IS NOW WORKING, AND WE WOULD APPRECIATE ANY DONATIONS YOU CAN MAKE TO KEEP THE LES PAUL FORUM GOING! Thank you!

You guys in the know, what's going on with the 2008 issue of the JP LP Customs? I would really like to try one. Do they come up for sale very often? And how are they holding up in value in this down market?

Those of you that have handled more than one, are they fairly consistent in weight, tone, resonance, neck feel, etc. Or is each one its own guitar?

There are usually a hand-full of them on ebay from time to time. I don't think the prices ever budged on them.
People have a hard time making this one a collectable because nobody has seen the guitar after it's been stolen 40 years ago. And no one really remembers what he did to modify it back then.
It's less of a reissue or replica and more of an homage to the custom he had.

Now, as a players guitar, it is just that. The neck is nice. It has endless tonal possibilities with the 6 way switch and it is rather heavy. I fiddled around with only 1 but I liked it very much. What gets a lot of people is the middle pick up. It messes with their picking.

+1 on every point.

Gorgeous guitar and when the middle pup gets in your way, remember that Jimmy never seemed to mind:

(if that's not enough to make you want one, nothing will)
(I wonder if there's a zebra under those covers)

eBay buy-it-now prices are often cuckoo but for a reasonable price the upcharge on a regular custom is worth it. You get the 6-way switch, split-bridge push-pull, JP pickups, COA and signed case. Pretty wicked.

They all look the same but here's #469 for the sake of it:

If you play it for a while, you forget all about the middle pickup being in the way.
You just get used to it.

+1. If Page, Clapton, Keef, Frampton, Albert Lee, Ollie Halsall, Glen Buxton and Hendrix could live with that middle humbucker I would not be too quick in dismissing these.

One thing this model has going for it is that Jimmy Page actually used one on stage to play "For Your Life" at the O2. As far as I can tell, that makes it the only signature reissue he's actually used on stage, and at such a historic performance too.

When did Hendrix play a 3 pickup custom?

Hendrix didn't play a Les Paul enough to be relevant. Every time he picked one up, he probably remembered why he loved Strats so much!:wah

I was sure I'd read online somewhere that he used a reissue for Dazed and Confused at O2 (but I can't seem to find a reference for that now).

I think he used quite a few LPs on that show. #1, #2, #3, JPRI #1, and one of the Transperformances. Some of the songs were tuned lower so it made it easier to have different guitars pre tuned.

The three I owned were all about equal. I sold my last one and it was really great - a bit heavy but really nice. Don't know about the value - the value of everything is down now - maybe the best time to buy.

Thanks to all for the info.... all. Interesting about Hendrix too! Anyone know which songs Keith Richards used one on? I've seen pics of him as youngster with one of these...Bigsby and all.

Yeah...from what I have read here on the forum, the stoptails are far fewer in number.

Does anyone know of one for sale anywhere?

Thanks!
