• Guys, we've spent considerable money converting the Les Paul Forum to this new XenForo platform, and we have ongoing monthly operating expenses. THE "DONATIONS" TAB IS NOW WORKING, AND WE WOULD APPRECIATE ANY DONATIONS YOU CAN MAKE TO KEEP THE LES PAUL FORUM GOING! Thank you!

Allright all you Marshall Class 5 DIE HARDS!!

Reading the different news articles about that thing, it's not clear to me that the combo really has a 12" speaker. The product description doesn't mention this upgrade, only the order-code does. If so, I wonder which speaker it is. An Heritage Greenback would be great ;)

I also wonder if the "low power-switch" isn't just the one-wire-bedroom-trick that a member of our very own LPF came up with. In that case I'd be not interested since I've already soldered that myself. But if they incorporated something like powerscaling (like in the AFD) I would buy the combo in a heartbeat.

My father and I came up with that mod and posted it here (somewhere) last year. Shortly afterwards we met Jim Marshall's daughter (who I believe is now all but running the company) at a trade show in London and told her about the mod. We also suggested a few other improvements that could be made to the construction of the Class 5.

"Thanks for the input."

I'm really looking forward to trying one of these too. A mini half stack is right up my street.

I'm thankful to you and your father as well as I'm using your mod all the time. I read your post even before I got my C5 and it was the very first thing I did after unpacking the amp. I wonder if they did just that or if they modified that "bedroom-switch" in one way or another.

I would have also loved a Class 10 oder 12 with a bit more volume for a band-situation and a power-scaling feature to dim it for home use.

But I can see myself buying that halfstack anyway...

Right On boys!!

So does that mean you and your pop will get all the amp of your choice from Marshall or??

There's gotta be something in there for the both of you.:hmm

Marshall should come up with an IDEA thread sections for making the product up to the utmost perfect amp. ( with a prize of some sort )..
Now that's an idea.

Cheers!:salude

Not to hijack, but I was really surprised to see my recent purchase (Blackstar HT-5) was built in Korea! Who knew?

+1 a 10 watter would be very cool to have a little more clean headroom.

I did your mod to my C5 the same day I got mine, and it is totally awesome!i would've probably sent amp back if it weren't for the lower power mod, as it was more volume than needed.
I think karma will come around "Thanks for the mod"!:2cool

I'm not saying that they didn't come up with the idea themselves, it may have all been a coincidence. We can't officially take credit for it I'm afraid.

I'd already got two free Class 5s out them previously (for other reasons), so I'm not expecting much.

Class 5s are (at least) assembled in England. When I spoke to Ms. (I want to say Sheila?) Marshall she said that she thought that the marketing department hadn't made enough of that fact when they launched the Class 5.

If someone came up with a kit version of this, I don't think they could keep them in stock.
