I believe an '03 should be a Custom, ASrts, & Historic case still.
Likely the former owner bought a newer guitar and swapped cases or just bought that case in order to keep the former.

I have a '98 that didn't come with an original case so I bought the C, A, & Historic case from a forum brother.
Personally I wish they had never changed that.

Hi - I have an LP from 03 with a Custom Arts and Historic case. So. They did quit shipping the historics with this case at the end of 03 then?

I think so as 2004 was the first year for the new "Custom" case.
Same case different Logo.

I believe the Lifton case only came with R9's. Is your's an R9?
I also wonder if '99 was the last year for that.

Hi Folks

I saw an add for a 2002 R9 with serialnr 2064 (early!!) that has a braz board according to the seller. According to the info in this thread only 8 official LPs were made with a braz board. Could this be one of them? Were these LPs made early in 2002 or closer to the end? I know that Gibson used braziliand rw in the beginning of 2003 so I would think that the 2002s with brazboards would be late 2002s. What do you think?

Nemesis, #2064 is outside the range of the confirmed '02 Braz run, which went from SN 2038 through 2045. Those guitars were produced very early in the year. I own a Braz '02 that falls well outside of this range, but it's fully documented by Gibson. The only way I'd trust that #2064 is a Braz guitar is if the seller has official documentation from Gibson stating it is.

Ok, so what would serial number 8 9830 be? It's a LP Std., kind of a burl looking top, red finish and custom shop logo on the back of the headstock. The owner has no paperwork as the guitar was a gift. He thought it was originally purchased between 1998 and 2000. I'm an amateur at this, but it looks from the serial number that this should be a 1999 58 reissue but since those don't exist.... :)

Any assistance would be appreciated.

David, this is a very obscure place to put a query like that - I suggest you start a thread in the Sunburst Pub and ask the guys there, where it will actually be seen.

I have a question on my Black Beauty.

I bought this guitar in 1992, brand new, from the Australian Importer (Dynamic Music).

It is a 1957 LPC '57 Black Beauty Reissue with two pickups.

I confirmed with Gibson that it is solid mahogany with mahogany cap, 2 x 57 Classic PU's, Gold plated hardware, Grover Machine heads, aged binding and came with brown case and pink lining.

The serial number is screen printed in gold on the back of the headstock.

The number is 2 2##2

I was reading in this thread that the Historic/Custom shop guitars start their numbering with the year.

My guitar starts with the manufactured Year and not the reissue Year.

Any ideas? I am assuming that my guitar is numbered the way it is due to the way that Gibson started with their reissue series before going to a stand alone Historic series.

By the way it is an incredible sounding guitar and It seems to have been built when Gibson had impeccable QC and a real passion for market leadership.

Thanks

Grant

I have a 1992, 56 RI. I got it from Willcutts, it has a SN like the one above 2 0131 just posted this to add to all the other data. great information thanks

I have a 1998 '56 Historic Goldtop and it "does" have the metal pointers attached to the posts on the vol/tone pots.

I hope this helps.

Hi,

Any information for 2008 ?

Anyone with 2008 specs please help update this thread. I just bought a 2008 R0 and would like to know what is improved from previous years or changed.

I would really hate to have to ask Joe Yoshida for the info since I may be moron or homosin:2cool

What changes were made in 2009, and then in 2010, and finally 2011?

I would really like to know this too....in fact, can anyone please provide a summary of the changes since 2006? It's hard to glean this info from this thread or others.
