• Guys, we've spent considerable money converting the Les Paul Forum to this new XenForo platform, and we have ongoing monthly operating expenses. THE "DONATIONS" TAB IS NOW WORKING, AND WE WOULD APPRECIATE ANY DONATIONS YOU CAN MAKE TO KEEP THE LES PAUL FORUM GOING! Thank you!

Where to get a good reissue wrap tail?

I bought a 1961 Epiphone Coronet and like a Les Paul Junior or 1953-1955 Les Paul, it uses a wrap-around style tailpiece. Unfortunately it has a "bad ass". Errr. So i need a smooth nickel wrap tail with two nickel studs. Is there any place that sells decent reissues of these? (I don't need an original, this guitar hardly warrants spending that amount of money for an original.) Thanks!

Gibson do one but my preference is the pigtail music one...better ridge for string break, correct weight, perfect fit. Studs are also available. Trust me, it's worth spending just a little extra for the pigtail.

thanks! where do you get the pigtail? i went to their website and see it for $129 in either polished or relic'ed condition. but it doesn't say whether you get the two studs also? (They sell the studs separate for $36 so i assume the tailpiece doesn't include them?) i would go for the relic'ed version to match the guitar, unless someone has some other advice on this?

Try contacting BCRgreg ( I think his shop is BCR Guitars). I believe he carries the whole line. Might be faster than direct. Yes, you will have to buy the separate studs as well. You can go tonepros for locking studs if you prefer. StewMac also carries some pigtail stuff, might be able to get teh studs too, not sure.

At one time these were the magic, but the mojoaxe have a better adjustment for intonations. Each side is offset to adjust for intonations and to stop the sitar affect.

+1 MojoAxe -- bought one for my '59 Melody Maker to replace an aftermarket wrap tail and it's great.

Just got a MojoAxe (the lightning bar version) for my '63 Junior, and it looks perfect.
Looking forward to an intonation upgrade, once I get around to installing it.
Beautiful products (I have an adjustable Pigtail, and that's also nice)!

I've always used the Pigtails and find them to be fantastic. Just recently I've became aware of the MojoAxe tailpieces and I think it's an ingenious design. If I were to get another wraptail guitar I would get one of these. OTOH, I've never had any intonation issues with my Pigtails.

Clay, I'll second (or third, or fourth) the Mojoaxe. Have one on a '59 TV, it's great.

My birthday is coming up next month and I have only one request in to my wife. I made sure she had the link to buy me one of the MojoAxe tail pieces. Come on February.

Little bit of a dredge...nice Epi's! Meant to say that the wrap around Pigtail is primarily for angled wraps, rather than lightening bar equivalents. How do you find this for intonation?

That tailpiece alignment appears to be perpendicular.
If that's true, that's the wrong type of tailpiece. :hmm

+1 a '61 should probably have the "lightning" style (post '60 Gibson style).

Same message x 3 different ways. cfh, I'm getting a Mojoaxe Lightening and will be able to report on its appropriateness soon to you.
