Current value of rewound PAFs?

Hello all,
I've tried searching, but haven't found a whole lot of info. With the current economy, what is the current market value of a rewound Gibson PAF? Does it matter if it was one or both coils? I'm guessing the value is increased a bit based on the color of the coils, as well as who did the work.
Thanks,
Brad

I'll give it a shot as I've been offered a few Pafs lately.

Per pair with original coils;

Double Blacks - $4k to $5k.
Double Whites - $9k+
Zebras - somewhere in between those two.
Add $500 per pickup for covers never off.
Deduct $500 for additional solder along leads on shielding, (ie, pulled from model other than Les Paul such as an ES355)
Maybe not a big deal to some, but if I'm paying $9k+ for a set of DW's, I don't particularly want to see additional solder.

Rewinds, halve the above prices, maybe a tad more for DW's.
I'd personally pay the same for a half rewind (one coil) as I would for a full rewind.

What do you say experts, am I close? :peace2

I bought a pair of double blacks for 3K not too long ago so I think you are a little high.

I understand your point, But after you installed them in theory you wouldn't "see" the extra solder.

I've never paid more than $600 for a rewound PAF, and buy each one I'm lucky enough to find as Dave Stephens will rewind them into the best sounding pups you've ever encountered.

Likewise, I bought a pair of double-blacks, with full decals for 3K, without covers.

Think of how much food an medicine 9k would buy for a 3rd world kid. Sorry for farting in the room but on some days this sort of madness really gets to me!

I wouldn't walk across the street for a pair of $600 rewound PAF's.

exactly

pickups these days, like amps and guitars, are all good with different characteristics.

if I ever lose one of the PAF's in my conversion to any sort of failure, I'll be directly shopping for one of the modern repros.

You should probably sell all your guitars and go shopping for those 3rd world kids you're so worried about...

I've got three of those kids living in my home wise guy.

If you want a PAF, step up and buy a good, clean unaltered one.

I don't know what a rewound paf is worth these days. But I'll admit I paid 50% for a broken zebra paf about 10 years ago. I wanted it and it was there. I sent it to Jim Rolph and its a beautiful thing.
For me there is still value in the old magnets and bobbins. When I have an old guitar with a broken pickup, I would NEVER replace it with a new pickup. I get it fixed and it goes back in or I replace it with another vintage correct pickup. Depends on the guitars condition on what happens. So on the rare occasion when they break/fail, I always get them rewound. I'm not gonna throw it in the trash!! If any of you have broken vintage pickups, I invite you to send them to me. I've had 5 various types of vintage pickups rewound in my life. All sounded as good, if not better than before when I got it back in the guitar. Probably due to the fact they were likely starting to fail. Nothing lasts forever.
