I'm not one for running up prices for these things, I'd never spend more than $15K to $20K on a really good player ( I know that it'll never happen) but I am surprised that those who think 6 figures for a Burst is reasonable would balk at $500K for this one.
Gibson didn't choose Greenie as CC#1 for nothing, they started the run with a bang. To me that price seems justified when comparing to other Bursts out there.

Well oh be the hokey! If I had half a mill USD I would buy that guitar tomorrow. Stg£300k or so and no import tax. That is THE guitar imho. Off to the other place to see what's going on then..

120k for the Greeny? April comes very early this year. :ganz

It's all about perceived value. You may think it is worth that. As a Burst, I do not.

As a piece of rock and roll history and placed accordingly yes $500K is a good deal. EMP Mueseum in Seattle would be a good place for it. Purchased as a tool of the art and the songs written with it and looked after as an exhibit. Great.

Peter would think it quite ridiculous I'm sure if he were to be asked about this. He told me many years back he never really bonded with it.

$500K for a Burst? No, just no given it's condition, it's murky history, it's neck breaks, it's alleged replaced parts. There are far better examples than this one to be had for a lot less.

I'm not one for letting sentimentality cloud my judgement. Which is surprising as Peter is my favourite player.

A rumour that nobody challenged at the time. At least not on this forum if I recall.

Almost 100% sure it was.

Many threads that veered in that direction got locked, deleted, or moved backstage.

I kept screen saves of some...

To me, it is THE 'Burst. The only others that have any kind of emotional tug for me would be either Pearly Gates or maybe Bloomfield's.

If you're differentiating between appropriate valuation as a collectible and its' intrinsic worth as a guitar then I think the gap is even bigger since nobody buying a Burst is getting sixfigures worth of wood, plastic, metal and workmanship.
I understand your argument but isn't it a bit like saying "Why pay a couple of hundred K for a baseball signed by Babe Ruth when you can get a ball just like it for a few bucks"
For a collector this statement makes no sense.

True, if it was just another Burst with issues. But this one belonged to Peter Green AND Gary Moore and the better examples don't. "Oh Well" was recorded with this one. "Still Got The Blues" was recorded with this one. This one is iconic, most better examples are not.

+1 Outside of the guitar geeks, relatively few people in the USA even know who PG is. That is a crying shame.

Gary had this guitar since '72 right up to a few years before his death, when the rumor was he sold it for a cool $1m to pay a tax bill.
There are some here that know exactly what it changed hands for, correct?
Maybe the guitar should be in a museum in Ireland, considering Gaz had it for like 35 years!

Most Americans know he is the guy that covered that Santana song... :ganz

I doubt they know who Santana is at this point. It has been about a decade since Supernatural and most don't even remember Matchbox 20 let alone the guy who co-opted the lead singer and a few other popular artists at the time to help him regain popularity, lol.
