• Guys, we've spent considerable money converting the Les Paul Forum to this new XenForo platform, and we have ongoing monthly operating expenses. THE "DONATIONS" TAB IS NOW WORKING, AND WE WOULD APPRECIATE ANY DONATIONS YOU CAN MAKE TO KEEP THE LES PAUL FORUM GOING! Thank you!

It´s actually my new band called GuitCussion, since it has two guitarists and two drummers. That´s the whole band. We rehearsed last weekend for two days for a coming CD, and we recorded the rehearsals to hear how we sounded.

And here´s a clip where we improvise in a quite funny way. The two drummers are brilliant (professionals) and said that they wanted to try to play with no "1" in the beat. The rythm therefore became floating, and the guitarists followed by also playing in different tempos.

The other guitarist, Brakophonic, plays a Ovation Breadwinner-type into a digital unit, and sounds like a synth sometimes, a glockenspiel in the middle and like a cello in the end.

I played my old Les Paul-SG into a Fender Blues Deville and sounded nasty all the time.

Here´s the clip, called "Limp" (due to the strange rythm):

And here´s another clip from the same session, with the same set-up where I play my Les Paul-SG 1961. It´s a softer and more jazz-oriented piece. The other guitarist, Brakophonic, use his Ovation and sounds like a steelstring acoustic and plays in a stiff style. I play smoother and much faster.

Here´s "Keith":

Since you all seems to be so enthusiastic about the clips above, I will also post a last clip. The drummers in this clip plays very heavy, and the both guitarists do their best to stir it up even more. I start a solo with my Les Paul-SG after 2.40 something, but the two guitars are duelling for 9 minutes. This clip should be played very loud.

Sorry but that sounded like noise to me. If you enjoy it keep playing. I don't think you need a 61 SG for that, but if that's your choice, who am I to say?

Music is a very personal thing. Get two people in a room listening to the same thing and chances are there will be much disagreement about what is good and bad. Frisell played an SG Junior for years. The who Live at Leads SG tone is fantastic. Very different music made with similar guitars.

Nice, but no so different. Could hear the same thing in the early '70s (Mahavishnu, etc..)

Its definitely differnt'.

I can't find the groove.

...2..3..4..2..3..4....plah!!!

Where do I come in????

I can dig on the whole avante free form dissonant diminished jazz noise 'thang.

This is a little past that and more like chaos.

Like looking for the corner in a round room.

Do your 'thang man.

Ha ha, yes, maybe a little different. One of the drummers has a PhD in polyrythmics (?!!), so he like to do it like that. :)

One funny thing with "Limp" is that if you try to nod your head to the rythm you will soon almost fall of the chair. It´s the lack of a "1" that has that effect.

Jeez, I sounded like an arse. It is good stuff. Talented musicians stretching out. It does require the appropriate audience, though.

No, you´re right: you heard that it´s inspirered by Mclaughlin´s fusion style, but Texas Blues is also right; it takes it much longer, into freemusic and organized chaos.

Actually: I got the inspiration to start this group from Wayne Shorter´s LP Supernova from 1969 (you can find it at youtube). In the first tune Mclaughlin and Sonny Sharrock are duelling on guitars, and the two drummers are Jack Dejohnette and Chick Corea (!).

But we play more chaotic, it does not sound like Supernova at all. ;)
