• Guys, we've spent considerable money converting the Les Paul Forum to this new XenForo platform, and we have ongoing monthly operating expenses. THE "DONATIONS" TAB IS NOW WORKING, AND WE WOULD APPRECIATE ANY DONATIONS YOU CAN MAKE TO KEEP THE LES PAUL FORUM GOING! Thank you!

Here' a great clip from 1971 of Swedish "supergroup" Marsfolket playing two songs. Three fifties Les Pauls is to be seen and heard! The guy on the organ, Björn Skifs, had a number one billboard hit in 74 with Hooked on a Feeling. The sunburst to the right (played by the guy who sings and presents the band) is supposedly a 1960. He traded it to Rick Nielsen on a tour in the states in 1975.

On the stripped gold top you clearly see the holes from a Hagström Tremar discussed in another thread recently.

A couple of clips with Janne Schaffer and Björn Linder from the first clip.

I just came across this YT clip of Marsfolket. No video but a great audio track. The album cover shown translates to something like "nice knobs" :)

Also, a clip of the power trio November is never wrong:

So early on, the magic of the burst seem to have been widely known in Sweden. A lot of them came from vintage dealer "Halkan" in Stockholm. Gibsons and Fenders weren't as scarce like in England for example. The was no trade ban and Hagström had started to import them. I think the first Stratocaster came here as early as 1957.

Overall, Sweden had great rock, hardrock and progrock scene in 70s too. :)

Hey Prog, may I ask where you're from? Over the years it seems we happen to like many of the same 70's prog bands, especially british, dutch (and maybe swedish too, but perhaps the bands from here weren't as famous).

While we're on the subject, here's a nice song from another swedish prog band:

I am from Slovakia. :eek:la

I prefer especially Italian 70s prog bands, they had incredibly rich prog scene, perhaps bigger than in UK, but most of their bands are now sadly forgotten to worldwide public. France was full of great and interesting prog too.

And btw., i like this Swedish band too :) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4Lh0a_q3y0U

Can anybody confirm the serial number on this Burst? Might it be 9 0938?

Alright! Thanks :eek:la Did you have a big prog scene in Slovakia?

I must admit I don't know if I've ever heard any italian prog bands, will have to check some out now. I started to get into that kind of music when I first heard Wishbone Ash, so I guess UK bands were easiest to find and get into.

Trettioåriga kriget are great! :salude

I never thought that was a Gibson, It looks like a guitar that was built by a then famous local guitar builder that were known to once in a while put the Gisbon logo on guitars he built himself.

I'm not sure, and havent met Clabbe in 20 years , but i dont think it looks like a 1960 Burst.

Janne Schaffers burst is 9 0930

3_59Bursts.jpg

Thanks, Mike. I tend to think there might be a confusion with the serial number written in that photo... Just saying because 9 0930 is hanging at ESP Guitars in Japan (Old Guitar Garage): http://burstserial.com/gallery/main.php?cmd=album&var1=1959%2F9+0930%2F&var2=2 :hmm

I have tried contacting Mr Schaffer but no luck yet, maybe a photo of the back of the headstock of these 2 guitars would help. I'll keep on trying and keep you posted. :##

Mike, Clabbes guitar was discussed at Ljudbojen, don't you remember? Someone chimed in and said it was a '60.
I don't know if it is true but that is what was said. Hell I didnt even know he could play guitar, I only know him as an Idol jury member! :)

Wow, I am sure Janne will respond, he is a great guy, hes had the guitar since 1966, its in several photos and film clips through the decades.

I did hold the guitar at a show in 2004 when it was on display (the picture is from the mid 90´s) but i did not think of looking at the serial number.

Sure, don't get me wrong, I am not doubting the authenticity of his guitar, I just want to clarify the thing with the serial number. As Tom has shown several times it is quite easy to misread a number, so a photo of the back of the headstock would definitely help. I'll let you know if/when he answers my e-mail. Cheers. :salude
