• Guys, we've spent considerable money converting the Les Paul Forum to this new XenForo platform, and we have ongoing monthly operating expenses. THE "DONATIONS" TAB IS NOW WORKING, AND WE WOULD APPRECIATE ANY DONATIONS YOU CAN MAKE TO KEEP THE LES PAUL FORUM GOING! Thank you!

Has anybory tried these pups fm Forum member Rick Norman? I hadn't been on his site in awhile until recently and saw these. A couple of yrs back I got a set of his Humbuckers that he makes specifically for 335 type guitars. I was super pleased with these and still have them in my late '60's 345. There's a lot of great P90's on the market and was wondering if anybody had tried these.

I have the Mean and Meaner set in a Gibson Pete Townshend sig SG. They came unpotted, but I had to get them potted as they squealed with even mild overdrive. If you play clean, they'd be fine, and though I don't use anything more than light to medium o/d,it just wasn't usable for me like that. I was very concerned that I'd lose the wonderful tone from these when potted, but thankfully,I can't hear any change other than a lack of squeal. I have Lollar P90's in two other Gibsons, and the Dr V's compare very favourably, although they're a bit different with the Lollars being a little more hi-fi,and the Dr V's a bit more driven. Both great though. When the Dr V's are turned down, they are amazingly sparkly, and as you bring up the volume control, they fatten up a lot,but are still very articulate. Recommended. I'm talking about Wolfetone P90s here, never tried P90s from Rick Norman. Sorry for any confusion
