I have nothing to add, either. But I would like to donate some time & effort to push the thread into 10 pages

So if it is a ringer (and I'm not saying it is) it's existence is at least verified back to 1985...is that correct? Or not?

Hi Luke, I didn't authenticate anything. I just sold a guitar. No, it had regular saddles. '61 pot codes.

OK - 2 stupid questions

1) Why the leftover red residue under the pickup?

2) Is that jammed-in piece of wood which has the pickup ring screw hole "normal" woodwork for an explorer?

1. The red stain is from the dye in the pickup rings.

2. Yes.

HI,
The red residue in the lacquer is from the material that the pickup surround is made of due to a chemical reaction between the cellulose lacquer and surround. Quite often seen on Blonde and light coloured Gibson's.
The piece of wood is regular in original Explorers.

Oh, so Gibson must've taken rings and PU's from a cherry ES-345 and pots from a 61' SG and then installed them in a guitar from 1960.

This guitar is right as rain!

This guy Big Hern is really getting under the skin of all the big shots here.

But what a fuck up of a thread. It doesn't really set a good example for anyone dipping into this forum for the first time.

Teddy Boy,
What Big Shots?

I don't now Gil...? Answer your phone. I want to buy an all original Charvel... Or a tiny '57 octave guitar with the wrong pickups, two neck reset, split headstock... I have a C/C from Cuba... BH

How many real Korina Explorers had you examined in detail prior to your authenticating the guitar for the Harrisons when they bought if from Kirk?

For the hard-of-reading, I'll post it again.

Uh, so did Clive make the Explorer Fake/Forgery that Gary's has for sale? Or is that a fake/forged Clive ? Let's see if I have this right, 1960 serial number, 61 pot dates, missing plastic and case, non original tuning gears poorly installed, checking that ends at headstock wing, and carries over on pickgaurd… between suffering through all the Brit word play humor and insults, the insinuations and fabrications this thread has caused me to double my meds!!!

I love Korina Explorers and I am fascinated by them. This thread has almost killed it for me. I may consider getting a Historic Explorer but I know enough now to run away as far as I can when confronting a "REAL" one.

Rich,
Is that Justin's sister????
WTF?

Hey Bob, just seen this. :teeth - somewhere in sleazeville USA mid 80's I'd guess? These cards came with the guitar when Kirk bought it from from John Nelson.
Came with a nice old leather strap too, some old strings and some shite backstage passes.

When I first read this through I read it as, "came with a nice old leather strap on."

Given the content of this thread that wouldn't be a stretch... :ha

Well to me any Korina Explorer subject matter will always keep me interested. This has been a wild thread. For some reason I want to believe the guitar in question is an authentic Explorer but Im a nobody. As far as the pots go most of the 58/63 Korina run had early 60s pot codes as well as hardware from that period.

You should email me some of those old photos of your Explorers and let me clean them up in Photoshop. :salude

I had a hunch this subject wasn't dead.
