• Guys, we've spent considerable money converting the Les Paul Forum to this new XenForo platform, and we have ongoing monthly operating expenses. THE "DONATIONS" TAB IS NOW WORKING, AND WE WOULD APPRECIATE ANY DONATIONS YOU CAN MAKE TO KEEP THE LES PAUL FORUM GOING! Thank you!

I haven't yet played a Traditional that didn't sound real good. I think it must be the neck joints. There used to be a huge gap between the sound of a short/lame tenon and the historic. Now that line is blurred and must Les pauls sound/feel better for it.

Love the color of yours. I refinished mine to a very similar color!

So I guess CS Historic Standards from 2015 and on sound crap.

Settle down sparky, sounds like he is complimenting the quality of traditionals, not bashing historics.

Exactly.

I've owned several fine Les Pauls including Historics and a lovely '56 conversion.

I now own only one Gibson Les Paul and it's my 2012 Traditional (yes I've modified the crap out of it) but the core wood is good.

(the guitar in my avatar is a replica)

I'm settled. Just thought the point came through as short tenons sound poorer as a fact. Not necessarily true in my opinion. :)

well that debate has gone on long enough. Just because some people don't understand the physics, doesn't mean it isn't or can't be a factor.

More often than not, a short, rocker won't provide the same type of acoustic resonance that the different joint of the historic (or vintage). Not saying "better" as many prefer the more focused tone afforded by less resonance.

For my preference, I want a more resonant Les Paul such as the vintage models or Historic.

I was very pleased that the new design short tenons tend to sound and feel the way they do. And yes, I believe I could pass a blind A/B test.

Most players can't. Doesn't matter that much. :salude

My point is tht whatever they're doing now for these traditionals is noticeably closer to the flagship tone that previous models.

On that I agree, and to jump on a sidetrack I find the 2018 Classic models intriguing for the same reasons. :hank

Thanks for all your comments:) Very nice.
It is definitely not my last Les Paul purchase. The neck is what i have been dreaming about for years, nice and chunky!;-)
I also bought a new JCM800 2203 and a Boss SD-1 thats just an amazing classic rock tone. So timeless and such a beautiful natural distortion!

What delay pedal would you guys recommend?
Analog or digital?

I've looked at these:
MXR Carbon Copy.
Boss DD3.
Boss DM2 Waza Craft
T-rex Replica

Other suggestions?

I think all you've listed are good options. I use a Boss RE-20 Space Echo which has a very nice reverb too.

I loved my Replica....there are so many choices currently for delay and reverb though. Stuff has come a long way very quickly.
