Anyone try these?

Anyone heard of them?

Lemme start with a few pix...

So these drop in the guitar in place of the caps... but they are not really caps... the changes are such that it can't really even be called a capacitor anymore... more like an inner circuit device or a passive effector

Vintage capacitors have dramatic changes in timbre and these 'devices' are designed to approximate the most sought-after voices of vintage capacitors.

There are no capacitance values associated with these... rather there are 3 practical voiced nuances:

ROSSO - basic model, with delicate reactivity, rich overtones, open range feeling.

NERO - more powerful sound bringing down the center of gravity

BIANCO - brighter sound like that of original PAFs that tends to outline the sound

Ovaltone is the comapny making the Vermillion Boost and the Merkava OD... so they are no stranger to success.

Thought?

Until some literature explaining the concept is available in english, I'll recuse myself of giving an opinion, although the first impression I got is they're a niche product specifically targeting the japanese cork-sniffer or audiophile market.

What is the cost of these NU "not" caps?

How much? I am willing to try. Those tubes they come in look like the tubes for my yeast for beer. Mmmmm beer.

They are about $50 each... only available in Japan, but several distributors ship overseas. Such as Ikebe, who also accepts PayPal.

I'm still putting them through their paces, but my first impression is WOW!!! Clarity, articulation & touch sensitivity are all increased and as you turn the tone knob it goes seamlessly from Woman Tone to Banshee Scream (but without the harshness). I have the 'Bianco' and 'Rosso' installed but have a 'Nero' on the way and hope to eventually try them all in both neck and bridge positions to check out the differences.

So far, me likey... :salude

:bigal Have I logged on to the wrong forum? I thought this was a guitar forum not the audiofool hifi forum!

If these are not really capacitors I would love to know exactly what they are, in 35 years of working with electronics the only thing I've ever encountered that when wired to a potentiometer will create a variable rc filter that will act as an audio tone control is .......... guess what, a capacitor!

"inner circuit device or a passive effector" LOL I'd love to know what these are as I've never heard of them before!

WOW 35 years of working with electronics? You must be some kind of genius!!! See if you can find a capacitor to store some of that abundant overflow of sh!t coming out of your ears... A$$!!!

No not a genius and still learning about electronics even after 35 years. What I do know for sure is that despite what the snake oil marketing hype might try to suggest these are capacitors, plain and simple. Cut one open and look inside the fancy case and you will find two conductors separated by some form of dielectric, i.e. a capacitor.

I love this stuff(the banter/badinage)......... luddites like myself look forward to ongoing results and findings in this thread eg do these things equal or surpass the effectiveness/performance of the fabled vintage bumblebees etc:wow

I can make a 2-3 5 gallon batches of beer for that price! I'm going for the beer. But I'm still interested in how they sound. Is there a Tiger claw or Aardvark nose hairs in them encased in unicorn bile at that price?

COMMON DUANE! CUT ONE OF THEM BABIES OPEN!

Someone posted a link to these videos in another thread about capacitors, well worth watching if you are interested in the subject. This guy did a blind listening test with 3 identical ceramic caps comparing them to 1 paper in oil bumblebee type capacitor all with the same capacitance value. Most people couldn't hear a difference (I couldn't), and those that claimed they could got it wrong most of the time!

$0.10 for a ceramic cap, $50 for a snake oil cap. You pays your money and you takes your choice!

Most likely just a chip in there... busting it open won't tell us much. Although it would be fun... pay for one and I'll do it!!! :spabout
