Really dig this guitar. Nice playing. Looks great. Sounds right unplugged.
Lets see what we have....

I do not, unfortunately. It does look a lot like my Faded Tobacco Sunburst 2013, except for the very narrow perimeter burst shade on the Kindreds lower bout. Kindred, brother? Is that a Duane, Hotlanta homage?

It looks great, with a striking top, much better than mine. These newer versions are really nice. What's it like plugged in? Anything in particular jump out too you?

Great color and figured top . I for one am confused about the name of colors that Gibson Custom uses . For instance this instrument's color is called Kindred Burst , which as Big Al said looks like Tobacco Burst a la Duane Allman , then this also looks like Dark Burst to me as well . Could someone kindly explain this to me ? Also anyone familiar with Wildwood Guitars "Wildwood Burst " please tell me which finish that is if I am shopping somewhere other than Wildwood Guitars ? and I want that color . As I am starting to plan for my next Gibson Custom Burst , and the one thing I don't want in the arsenal at home is a duplicate shade of Burst ( Heritage Cherry Sunburst, Factory Burst , Dark Burst , Dirty Lemon Burst , Green Lemon Burst , Slow Ice Tea Fade Burst , and the one being built now at Gibson Custom I don't even know what color Burst it will be labeled as the name that I know it by cannot be used due to legal reasons as told to me by Gibson Custom )

I already posted this in another thread.
It's the burst color of the Joe Perry run.
Gibson calls it kindred burst. There was also a limited run of R8s with that color and brown backs.
I really do like that burst!

It does remind me of the J. Perrys. It plays real nice. The underound pickups. Kinda grow on you.
Nice aged plastics and metals. Weight under 9lbs. should be able to click and view more pics

They can call it whatever, but it is still the same shade as my 2013 "Faded Tobacco", my 1972 Tobacco Burst", my 1959 "Sunburst", or the "Sunburst" on my 1957 ES225T.

What would this finish be?

Which one? It has gotten to the point where every tiny shift in tint or hue gets a designer lable. When I was at the Custom Shop in '03 I sprayed 3 distinctly different looking Cherry Sunbursts just by varying trigger pressure. I sprayed a teaburst/cherryburst/darkburst all with same cherry red.

Now it's just silly BBB designer colors.

I was thinking that maybe to be a true "Tobacco" the finish
would contain no red. here is a 1974 I always thought of as TB.<a data-flickr-embed="true" href="https://www.flickr.com/photos/185825126@N07/49173913887/in/dateposted-friend/" title="deluxe 007"><img src="https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/49173913887_37fc032a36_z.jpg" width="640" height="429" alt="deluxe 007"></a><script async src="//embedr.flickr.com/assets/client-code.js" charset="utf-8"></script>

Just curious do you still have this guitar? I remember these tops well. I was 16 in 1974 and I would just oogle these Les Pauls in the music stores. That guitar pictured in your post was definitely referred to as a Tobacco Burst. That one is amazing!

Just to reiterate, that top was at least referred to as a Tobacco Burst in 1974. Not sure what they're calling it now.

That's when it gets wierd. See, first there was Kalamazoo. All Sunbursts were a rich, dark, warm brown over yellow. There were only a few men spraying them. Two or three is my guess. Most are very similar, dark edge blending into that warm brown to an almost slightly reddish brown, not red, reddish brown at the fade. I can almost always tell a Kalamazoo finish from Nashville, certainly 70-80's.

Then 1958 and Cherry Sunburst! So basicly there are now 2 sunburst finish. I detailed my conversations with the three gentleman who sprayed finish in late 50's, still there in '78 when I had to go to Kalamazoo to demonstrate my skill to get certification as a warranty repair tech. I went with Seymour Duncan and Jim Lombard. The Sunburst now ,(195:cool:, would sometimes show a distinctly red blend from dark brown to yellow. Red, added on whim by the finisher, was not in the official Sunburst spec, but if the sprayer felt the urge, and one sometimes did, some rare examples show a triburst effect. Subtle, not like the Fender bullseye.

Then in 1968 the Les Paul returns and so does Cherry Sunburst. The color of red had changed in 1960 and there has always been some varied sunbursts dependent upon the tint supplied and the human touch and skill. Still, red to yellow was Cherry Sunburst. Around early 70's Sunburst is offered on Les Pauls officially, though now called Tobacco Sunburst ala Duane Allman.

This Tobacco Sunburst was the same as the Sunburst used on ES175 or ES335 etc. At some point it becomes Classic Sunburst to distinguish it from the Tobacco Sunburst comming from Nashville, which now look very dark brown, almost black, without the gradual fade/blend into yellow. A distinct blackish brown/yellow sunburst. The Cherry Sunburst suffered the same lack of gradation ala Nashville.

I still saw lots of variety. Pale Cherry and Tobacco hues to extremely dark varieties. Without the lables. One years Sunburst becomes another years Classic Sunburst or Tobacco Sunburst or Vintage Sunburst or Faded Tobaccoburst or Perryburst or Kindredburst, ......

Then all the shades of. I gotta stop, I'm using my remote on the smart TV and I'm hurting. This is hard and I'm beat up pretty good but it is what it be.

Yeah, thats great stuff Big Al !! I owned all these at one time.
only the 2 from left and 2nd from right (pic) are what I consider TB. But still
the one 2 from left has red around. these are all from 1973-74. Dark there around SS.

Yep, l to r, #2 and #4 look like Tobacco Sunburst as Gibson called them. All the rest, but especially #1 and #3 look like Sunburst. I did see even lighter Tobacco Sunburst than #5 into late 70's. These may have been sprayed with a light feathering touch at the factory, or the premixed Tobacco Brown was incorrectly mixed by the supplier, or the guitar was in a window, or a combination of.

You say Red. Do you mean the red component used to make Brown, which is seen in the feathered gradation where the color blends to yellow? Or, are you saying it has a distinct red added over the blend, past the brown, into yellow?

Mine will show Red at the gradation edge, n photo's, but in person, there is no separate red hue, other than the reddish brown that shows up in thinner applied color.

Tobacco Brown is a completely different color/tint, darker, with little red component in its makeup.

It can make your head spin. Oh, BEAUTIFUL LES PAULS!!! I am partial to 70-73's, myself.
