Haven't posted in a while. Gonna post a couple today. This guitar is so good! It was at Gruhns. The neck is just a little beefier than perhaps some of the other SGs I've ever played. I'm not sure if the Maestro and the Grovers add some resonance but this is an absolute beast of a guitar. And fun that its one of the older Murphy aged guitars. More than anything its just an amazing instrument. Bridge and neck pups (I think burstbucker 2 and 3?) are just killer!! Super stoked about this one! Serial 89 and music zoo says only first 75 were braz but man... this sure looks braz to me. some really nice dark streaks. I cannot stop playing it!

(and yes. The Carr Telstar is amazing. get one)

They are falling I think the 60th 2019's have a negative effect on some of these used Custom shop guitars . Im waiting till spring do not want to ship in winter Minnesota way up north .

Yea I get that.

It will be interesting to see if the prices start to come down on the Rossingtons, the Duanes and the Dickeys

You know Those rossington les pauls are usually really heavy from what I’ve seen. (Not sure if you’d be getting for collectors sake or playing sake?) Not that thats a deal breaker but there is such a difference to me in like an 8.5 lb les paul and a 9.5 lb les paul. Maybe its just psychological. I wonder if its because of the gold hardware or if they were just trying to approximate the real weight ?

These are cool guitars and an early example of what became a popular run of many artist inspired guitars for Gibson Historic.

These Rossingtons were essentially Murphy aged versions of the Historic SGs. This one here falls outside of the BRW range and has a Madagascar RW board, which is very close in properties to Brazilian. The Lyre engraving on the trem is very historically accurate.

Not pissing on your cornflakes here but it is a discussion board. There are a few details of these that could be improved. The contours and aging of the pickup covers is off. Some aftermarket covers can improve that relatively easily. The Asian Grovers also stick out but can easily be corrected with a vintage set of USA "milk bottle" Grovers. (Note that a lot of the regular Historics came with standard Kluson style tuners) The one detail that they really didn't get right is the neck heel. It's probably better than the vintage original but just isn't correct. It could probably be modified by a decent wood and finish guy.

Overall though these (both the Rossingtons and "regular" Historic versions) tend to be really good from this era.

Peter I only buy to play weight is not a issue as long as the guitar has the sound . As far as your new Rossington leave it stock this trying to make a nice custom shop into something it is not is ridiculous enjoy your new Les Paul ! How do you like the pickups?

JD it takes a lot to offend me. I do really appreciate your comments and I like anyone who is incapable of anything but brutal honesty. Theres way too much bullshit in this world. to be honest I'm cool w the guitar as it is and I'll probably leave it because to me its a player but I'd like to hear more about your thoughts about the heel-- to me it looked way better than some of the regular 61 RIs I've seen and closer to a real vintage one

Do a search on originals and note the "step" between the body and heel of the neck.

Example: 1961 Gibson Les Paul SG with Stephens PAFs https://reverb.com/item/23892841-19...are&utm_campaign=listing&utm_content=23892841

*I have no affiliation with this reverb auction; it is simply the first thing that popped up on a routine google search.

It’s funny because I thought that step, which I’ve seen on some 61 RIs was wrong and that it was right on this guitar. Matt Hughes (mrbankercustom) did some work on an old Sg that looked like this one so I thought this was more correct. Looking at guitars on reverb I feel I see some w steps and some without — It looks to me like perhaps when they make the joint like on mine (which is more akin to a v joint where there is like a cm or so where the body kind has the heel if you know what I mean) it’s stronger than the one you showed as perhaps the body is so thin there it was prone to cracking? I found at least one 61
on reverb that looked like the joint was similar to mine. I’d be curious of anyone else wants to chime in on this. Aesthetically I like the “V style” joint better anyhow. It looks nicer to my eyes. I do see what you are saying but I’m still not sure why I’m seeing some older Sgs w the joint looking like mine. I don’t see a step on this one. I’m not sure it’s right but for the sake of this discussion...

I had a couple of these through my hands. Absolutely killer guitars.

The Rossington LPs seem silly money here these days!
