• Guys, we've spent considerable money converting the Les Paul Forum to this new XenForo platform, and we have ongoing monthly operating expenses. THE "DONATIONS" TAB IS NOW WORKING, AND WE WOULD APPRECIATE ANY DONATIONS YOU CAN MAKE TO KEEP THE LES PAUL FORUM GOING! Thank you!

What were the best "dust ups" we've had here on the LPF during the last 21 years?

I was looking back on our 21 years the other day, and started thinking about my favorite moments on the Forum...the dust ups, the fights, the communication of knowledge, the outing of fakes etc.. We have so much shared history.

What are some of your favorite moments?:jim

The knowledge about Gibsons shared in these threads is nothing short of amazing. But my favorites are the ones that show kindness and compassion for others.
The Big Al Good Mojo thread and Grace Under Fire are two great examples. :3zone

Not sure if qualifies as dust-ups, but anytime someone got on Todd Louis about his spelling, or the number of Todd's guitar and amps in relationship to his NYC apt.... or sh*t-talked NYC in someway :laugh2: He and Browneyes made quite the tag team.

I also appreciated J45's in-depth knowledge of Gibson acoustics... and well, everything. He's just one facet of the huge knowledge base dwelling here, that I could only hope to convey a sliver of. :salude

I agree with Strings Jr. on his thoughts about what makes this place great. I also feel the knowledge base here is PHENOMENOL! I have learned a ton since being a member, and at the same time been immensely entertained by teh pissing matches that have happened in the train wreck threads that are just too hard to turn away from. For an average at best guitarist to be able learn from, converse and talk shop with some of the biggest contributors to my lifes soundtrack is mind blowing. To learn from some of the biggest burst gurus is amazing. I'm thankful to be a member here! Here's to at least 21 more years to the Les Paul Forum!!

I am a nobody around here, but I always enjoy and appreciate the collective knowledge that emerges when a shady guitar or amp comes into question. And that has happened countless times. I cannot even process the knowledge that goes into outing a questionable guitar or amp, but I sure to try to look and listen when it happens.

On a light note, my particular favorite was the epic pissing match between Plaintop and PatentAppliedFor (RIP), that went on for over 25 pages. In that thread, I posted, at semi-regular intervals, pics of horses fucking with the proviso: "This thread is kinda like watching horses fuck. It's slightly embarrassing, but you can't look away.":hee

On a more serious note, there have been some high dollar fakes outed on these pages, even when we were threatened with lawsuits. I'm proud of the membership's and ownership's collective backbone in those instances.:dude:

No dust ups as such.....but more than agree with Strings Jr's post above plus the in depth analysis around fugazi guitars and amps, anything that comes up re '50s and '60s music, Big Al contributing to a thread can't be beat........always a good learning curve and cause for good humoured discussion and participation :bigal
And finally Tom's BOTW that was here for many many years.........a veritable feast for the senses.....too good.

Phil Winfield pretending not to be a criminal.........:eek:la

Big Hern, his "Explorer" and the half dozen or so "letters of authentication".........a difficult thread to beat for the sheer, bare-faced audacity of the attempted heist.

Charlie ..that plaintop thread was classic and the first to pop into my head ...I seem to recall someone complaining to have had to sleep on the floor.

More - debate over Gibson's greatest dares: Firebird X, Robo-tuners, 2015 LP 100 headstocks, the legend of ol' Henry J... :dang

One ofthe more memorable members, a don't remember his name but he had photos of him with his pet squirrel in his beard. His signature was " If you leave your house, you're just asking for it."

Mine is just how the word "wrong" was used for everything that wasn't 1959 spec.

Wrong capacitors.
Wrong neck shape.
Wrong tailpiece angle.
Wrong, wrong, wrong.

You don't see that anymore.

The whole Forum in the early 2000s--the cast of characters has never been surpassed, and some of the threads were from another dimension of Space and Time...

I have been enriched immensely by all of the knowledge shared here about our favorite guitar the Les Paul . Dare I say I have even become fanatical and super obsessed in my quest for tone and more Les Paul's . Les Paul's are the single most favorite passion in my life and I owe a debt of gratitude to everyone from Charlie , Tom W, Mike Slub, and my favorite of all the one and only Big Al ,who has shared his wealth of knowledge and advice . Thank You Everyone and Keep On Rocking !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
