What were the best "dust ups" we've had here on the LPF during the last 21 years?

I really enjoy the Where Are They Now thread by Strings Jr.

A couple of shitstorms that come to mind were threads about the faked #1 1999 Murphy-aged and painted R9, and one about a 1958 'burst that supposedly had a sale pending until somebody on the forum recognized that it was in fact the "Catalog 'burst".

I usually avoid the threads that became pissing matches. For the most part, I hang out here at the LPF to learn more about Gibson electrics, to enjoy the guitar porn, to fuel my GAS, and occasionally share some knowledge with others. It looks like this month is my 17th anniversary here, although I hung out as lurker for a couple of years prior to that.

One ofthe more memorable members, a don't remember his name but he had photos of him with his pet squirrel in his beard. His signature was " If you leave your house, you're just asking for it."

That was Moonpie (Tom Burch down in Huntsville).

I enjoyed the "dust ups" as much as the next guy (in a 'horses fucking' sort of way :hee), but for me the years when The Jamzone was a very active and vibrant community of talented and generous players gently critiquing each other's playing and recording technique were magic. Sort of a "you had to be there" situation, but there were 30-40 guys from all around the world sharing their talents and experience, their advice and kind words, their humor and sarcasm with each other for about 6 or 7 years. Back then it was a bit like a college Writing workshop or something - everybody checked their egos at the door and found something encouraging to say to all players who entered. I only ever met two of those folks in person, but they all felt like brothers, and by stretching out my playing and technique playing over original backing tracks where everyone came up with their own melody and approach... I improved more during that period than at any other point in my life. I'll always be grateful to them and to the LPF for that.

On a light note, my particular favorite was the epic pissing match between Plaintop and PatentAppliedFor (RIP), that went on for over 25 pages. In that thread, I posted, at semi-regular intervals, pics of horses fucking with the proviso: "This thread is kinda like watching horses fuck. It's slightly embarrassing, but you can't look away.":hee

On a more serious note, there have been some high dollar fakes outed on these pages, even when we were threatened with lawsuits. I'm proud of the membership's and ownership's collective backbone in those instances.:dude:

Can anybody find that thread? I am really curious about since it has been noted a couple of times.

Read page 7 of the sticky on CS changes in the makeup of a LP (circa Jan 2010). Mr Yoshida took LSD and decided to call us out here at LPF. I think he went straight to DanE on that one.
Going apeshit in a second language just requires a supercharged level of pissed-off.

Stock Hippy comes to mind.

Which I thought was great entertainment.

I myself.

Have had my share of stupidass embarrassing posts.

Somehow.

Y'all put up with my shit.

And let me stay.

Thank you.

I joined this Forum because I thought I knew something, I've stayed because I quickly realised I didn't. Pupillage is a state of freedom that I enjoy.

The dust ups that I refer to as favourite are those where people have thrown their hats into the ring to stop people pissing in the well, the fakers, frauds and general wrong 'uns don't have easy pickings here.

The legacy and romance of these great guitars and amps is protected here by a phalanx of knowledge and intelligence, and a fighting spirit that shows this stuff really does matter, I believe it's the very glue that binds us together; refer me to somewhere that does it better....

Some of my greatest guitar moments have come about as a direct result of the grace of members of this Forum, some of whom give the impression of being as mad as scrap yard dogs, but who aren't....I've played guitars and amps that I wouldn't have gotten within a country mile of otherwise. I've made some firm friends here that I'm humbled to call such.

I owe this Forum and it's members.

I remember a former forum member spouting about how all vintage ES-3X5 model guitar tops and backs were going to de-laminate over time.:##:rofl

The biggest dust ups were already mentioned - 9 0623, the catalog burst fiasco, Winfield, (Not so) Big Hern, the abrasive Scandinavians (Troels, and some guy called Steven).

Then we had the guy with the lawn jockey and plastic Godzilla ads (Doug R).

There was the goldtop that suddenly became a burst (with ditto price hike), and the South African burst deal gone, well, south. :hee

But I still get a kick out of Big Al entering any thread with guns blazing, calling BS whenever he sees it. We really need that.

Were there ever any Waldstein threads here?

Those always leave me in stitches. :laugh2:

The BlueJazz Wars were pretty amusing.

The only thread that made me walk away from the forum with a headache was the shitstorm over who makes the best PAF's. I was used to the nitpicking over plastics and aging and general snobbery but that thread was just over the top.

Pretty much any thread where John (Banker, f-hole) calls out bullshit. I've yet to see him miss the mark.

I especially liked how he (John) gave Craig Chaiquito's camp a law lesson and seemed to help out Cody.
