Re: Restoring my 1960 'Burst... need HELP..!! :)

Yes Ted, very strange.... As is a message I got this morning that they've just realised they CAN'T reverse the deal as they've already had to do some work on my p/x guitars. For instance one of the pickups on my '72 Standard wasn't working - which is strange because it was working perfectly just before I set off to do the deal, and had been working for the previous 35 years that I'd owned it.....

Also, apparently my '79 Custom had a crack in the neck which they've had to get fixed.... and re-sprayed. Also strange as it must have happened on the back seat of my car... in its case.

So they've now offered me £25k to return the "1960 Gibson Les Paul Standard" and to then go away presumably...

Any thoughts anyone? :hmm

to fix a pickup (re-pot? Re-wire?) £50

to fix a cracked neck, assume they remove the headstock clean off and do a new join, then respray, looking at £150

they are asking you to effectively take a £5k hit for those 2 small pieces of work? Tell them give you an invoice for the 2 pieces of work (if they even took place) and reverse the deal in full minus the 2 bits of work they have, circa £200.

its THEIR problem for selling a guitar falsely to you. They need to reverse it.

what you have described, a £5k deduction for those 2 poxy pieces of work is CRIMINAL

tell them to give you back your money and FU*KOFF !!!! These guys are literally scum

See post #714. They have now agreed to reverse the deal and compensate Ian for his trouble.

just seen

they are still absolute scum for trying that on in the first place

they definitely need to be fully named and shamed as the details Are totally lost in this thread. Should be a sticky for scum dealers selling fakes and ripping people off

It is indeed a small world. Right before the outbreak I booked Bruce to do a speech on leadership and entrepreneurship for my company, but of course now it is all in standby.

We’ve done a couple of gigs with my band, the Xtraverts, in your neck of the woods towards the end of last year, can’t wait to resume playing live.
Talented (and nice) guy, that boy Bruce..! What a shame about the speech...

Let me know when you're gigging again in the London/Essex area.... I've got some surplus loo rolls I need to chuck at someone...! :hee:)

Zapper......

In recognition of your tireless crusade and indomitable spirit.........:salude

.....on this Easter Sunday, as a gesture of good will, I would like to give you a free copy of Tony Bacon's bestseller "Million Dollar Les Paul; In Search of The Most Valuable Guitar in The World", 2008. I have two copies and only need one, so you may have my extra copy.

So next time your travels take you to the Northern Virginia/Washington D.C. area, give my a shout (via the PM feature), and I will happily meet up with you. No strings attached! :dude:

HAPPY EASTER.....:)

Ok after all I've probably been too harsh too long with you & the guitar zapper.
When I look back, your posts the previous couple days have been more convincing than in the first 400 pages of this thread. :)
So I will rest my case, and just hope that the scumsters you were lured by will sort things out, to the least disadvantage for you. Ideally they ought to end up in court..?

I can imagine how I would react if tricked this way. Been there in the past, almost done that -not with a burst though. That's when you realize you have to learn all you possibly can about this weird vintage guitars world. That, or be willing to pay the premium for goods by reputable dealers..

:salude

Wow!! That's so kind of you Marshall1987, thank you very much! Funnily enough I've just ordered Tony Bacon's other book "Sunburst" on Amazon as clearly I need to do some swotting up before having another go at buying a real one! Given that I've lusted after a Burst for over 30 years but am only now in a position to actually afford one, it's something I have to do before I peg it..! I'll PM you with my home address. Cheers, & GOD BLESS AMERICA!!:)

It's ok sweiger I forgive you..! I probably was a little too cocky when I initially posted this thread. It's amazing now to read those posts and to see how I went from being 100% convinced it was genuine to 100% convinced it was fake... It's only now that I realise you guys really DO know what you're talking about and are not just internet trolls/warriors out to kick someone when he's down. In fact totally the opposite, you've all saved me a lot of blood, sweat, tears & heartache, not to mention about £29,700....!

UPDATE: Have been negotiating with/shouting at Elite Vintage Guitars all afternoon and am currently awaiting their agreement to my latest proposal. Will let you know the outcome in due course.

Thanks again all!
Ian

Re: Restoring my 1960 'Burst... need HELP..!! :)

STOP PRESS: Elite Vintage Guitars has now agreed to reverse the deal in full and pay me an additional £500 as compensation for the hassle, stress and waste of my time. They will be returning all six of the p/x guitars in exchange for The Nile (now the World's most famous fakeburst!) as soon as the lockdown in the UK is lifted.

So, as our very own Billy Bob Shakespeare once said, "all's well that ends well"! And it's primarily down to you guys so thank you all very much for your time & effort contributing to this thread, which I'm thinking of renaming "Buying a Burst? Read this first!". Do you agree?! :)

I think you guys are confusing them [Elite Vintage Guitars, UK ] with Forum sponsor Elite Guitars [USA].

Completely different people. :hmm
Thanks for the clarification.

Awesome. :)
See if you can also get them to sign an affidavit, stating that they'll NEVER again try to pass on
"0-2453 Corona wannabe-burst" as a genuine Gibson.
I know, I know.. when hell freezes over :2cool

what about the work they did to fix a broken headstock and a dodgy pickup? I’m looking forward to finding out what they have done. You can use you new UV light to check the headstock repair they claimed to have done

Just imagine if you’d decided to keep the guitar and went with the bum steer that Tom & Terry we’re giving you! The blind leading the blind as it were. Thankfully JJ and J@S are among those who aren’t afraid to question the ‘experts’ fake news in the quest for truth. Glad you got this mess resolved.
