• Guys, we've spent considerable money converting the Les Paul Forum to this new XenForo platform, and we have ongoing monthly operating expenses. THE "DONATIONS" TAB IS NOW WORKING, AND WE WOULD APPRECIATE ANY DONATIONS YOU CAN MAKE TO KEEP THE LES PAUL FORUM GOING! Thank you!

Valuable information to consider when evaluating the authenticity of a vintage burst

That's interesting Zappa... Did you own the guitar, or were you just working on it..?
Just working on it. I was asked to remove the original pickups and replace them by a local dealer

Am I the only who wishes that either: 1] that this thread be moved to it`s appropriate sub-forum or 2] lock it up?

It's probably better off here, just in case it ends up back on the market... This is likely the first place a would be buyer (aka, the next victim) would look for verification...

:dh It`s grown old. If it does go on the market it needs to be listed for it is and NOT what it isn`t. If someone inquires here about it, then we can start over w/ the facts about it. It really doesn`t belong here any longer as it is not a real 'Vintage 1952-1960 Les Paul'--hell it`s never even been to America has it? Lock it up & also lock up whoever had this bogus guitar listed as 'the real deal'!

Well... I'm just a lowly Mod... I think I'll leave this up to those who have actual authority... In the meantime, if this thread is a source of tension for you, I would strongly recommend avoiding it... Which kind of makes me wonder... With all the shit that's going on in the world, this is what's bothering you? :hmm

C'mon man... Life is too short... :salude

You got it wrong--it`s not 'a source of tension' w/ me--it`s more of a unnecessary 'pita'. When I click on this subforum, I am clicking it so I can read about 'Vintage 1952-1960 Gibson Les Pauls'--that is the topic of this subforum right?! And the guitar that has been discussed 'ad nauseam' for 3 weeks now is NOT a 'Vintage 1952-1960 Gibson Les Paul' right?! And there are other subforums where this thread can now be moved to right?! Like maybe 'Cool Non-Gibson Guitars because it is NOT a Gibson guitar at all right?! That`s all, except that, yeah the world situation is not good so coming here to the LPF to read about GIBSON LES PAULS should be a refreshing break from 'that other reality'. Sure I can skip over it but the guitar is not even a Gibson--c`mon man--do what you can to move to it`s proper subforum! I know that TW is very quick in notifying someone who posts in this awesome subforum when their topic is NOT a 'Vintage 1952-1960 Gibson Les Paul'--that`s all I`m asking! PS: you need to add a Gibson Explorer to your fine arsenal!

I'll counter that the thread contains more information about 1952-1960 Les Pauls than most of the threads in this subforum.

Re: Restoring my 1960 'Burst 0-2453... need HELP..!! :)

This thread belongs to the Vintage 1952-1960 Les Pauls pub more than most threads ever created in this pub. It has SO MUCH information on bursts. It has SO MUCH information on the authentication business. It has SO MUCH information on how to NOT buy a burst.

If your eyes are sore for this not being a burst, click at the burst serial website advertised on this forum. Plenty of pretty pictures there. Most of us are here for the info, and this thread has plenty. It would be a disservice to move the thread.

And at last, we all know this guitar, one day or the other, let's say 5-10 years from now, will be listed as a burst again, and someone may fall for it again. This is the best pub for someone who's interested in buying to find all the info.

The Nile will flood Egypt again, believe in it!

This thread is what the Les Paul Forum does better than any other Forum on the internet, and it's in exactly the right sub-forum. The only thing I would consider is changing the title of the thread so more people who search our site could be informed as to what to look out for when purchasing an expensive, vintage Les Paul.:jim

I would love to have an Explorer. Wildwood had one a few months ago, but it was a little more than I felt like spending. :salude

As far as moving the thread, I think I addressed that... Right?!

Hear, Hear.

The LPF saving a new member a fair chunk of dough by dismantling the claims of a guitar that isn't what it's pretending to be, and protecting anyone unfortunate enough to fall for the three card trick in the future where this guitar is concerned by having this in the public domain.

One should not overlook the courage and the convictions of the main long time contributors to this thread. Bravo to them all.

Consummate.

I agree JJ.... there's an incredible amount of detailed information about vintage 'Bursts in this thread, much more than any book, so deserves to be here.

As a number of members (including myself) have suggested though, a more appropriate name to the thread would be useful. I certainly won't now be 'restoring' The Nile...

Plus it's entertaining to see the occasional dust-up, eg between you and me earlier on, and now Kenny & this grumpy K-L geezer...! Bring it on! :)

Yes, this thread is proof that...

A Burny with PAF's can sound pretty damn good if you think it's a 'burst in the first place.

Post some more of your personal videos as that might elevate this thread a little bit...:laugh2:. Obviously the experts here are really the only reason why this thread shouldn`t be nuked to oblivion! :rofl[If you don`t know, I am just kidding!]
