• Guys, we've spent considerable money converting the Les Paul Forum to this new XenForo platform, and we have ongoing monthly operating expenses. THE "DONATIONS" TAB IS NOW WORKING, AND WE WOULD APPRECIATE ANY DONATIONS YOU CAN MAKE TO KEEP THE LES PAUL FORUM GOING! Thank you!

What is your favorite album of all time?

True. I think there's still quite a bit of talent out there, but there's two huge obstacles. One, let's face it, pretty much anything palletable to the masses has been done, and the music business has changed.

I reckon many 'thangs have changed.

The internet.

The music companies.

And now with the current times and this covid 'thang.

Music will never be the same as we knew it.

I am not sure complete great albums get made these days.

I can appreciate a body of work by a band like Uncle Acid and the Deadbeats, though.

My favorite band of the last decade.

The Allman Brothers Band live at the Fillmore was the 1st one I thought then, maybe the Layla LP. Well those two and Rubber Soul do it for me. Can't pick one.

Re: What is your favorite album of all tip

Tuff decision...

Over all:
Goodbye Yellow Brick Road (lots of Masterpiece Music on that there vinyl, fantastic compositions - and what! an overall production Team)

For guitar:
Physical Graffiti ("Tne Rover" in particular - I never tire of listening to it, or performing it on guitar - certainly one of Jimmy's best performances - he was just so ON! on that Cut)

One album??............it's like asking a kid how many lollies do you like...........or want.
So I embark on a journey of 'what's my desert island music'.............and the answer is Gaucho.........the Fagan and Becker classic.

Agreed. As far as new talent coming out, it's a sort of paradox that with the internet, spotify, etc etc, it's easier than ever to get your music out there, but harder than ever to get noticed. Not long ago, to get noticed needed a record label and A&R person, along with your own manager. the managr and A&R would get your music to radio stations and so on. Now terrestrial radio is an oligopoly, with Iheart and Entercom basically owning everything. |With that, the stations are getting more and more homogenized (why they don't expand genres in a given market is beyond my paygrade) but it's harder and harder to get on the radio.
But, again, with various internet channels, it's easy to get music out there, but you're making fractions of a cent for a play, and getting noticed among hundreds of other songs / bands enough for someone to look you up and maybe buy or download something is very difficult.

I have a few favorite albums from certain times in my life but no "overall" favorite album from my entire life.

You nailed it. I’ve been trying to articulate this for a long time but never find the right words. Everything is fragmented now and nothing has the opportunity to build up into something huge, like water behind a floodgate.

The internet is to blame, when everything is available instantly to everyone everywhere, it all just becomes too distracting for any one thing to stand out.

Remember the expectation when the new Neil Young album (for instance) was due out in a few weeks? I worked at a record store in a university town, and we actually had a line outside the shop the day "The River" was released.
