• Guys, we've spent considerable money converting the Les Paul Forum to this new XenForo platform, and we have ongoing monthly operating expenses. THE "DONATIONS" TAB IS NOW WORKING, AND WE WOULD APPRECIATE ANY DONATIONS YOU CAN MAKE TO KEEP THE LES PAUL FORUM GOING! Thank you!

An Interesting Picture

That's a gathering of bursts from a BOTB photoshoot. I don't recall the source of the photo but it might have been a VIntage Guitar magazine. Years ago I added the serial numbers to the photo and posted it here on the forum and its been circulating around the internet ever since.

I identified the guitars by studying the backdrops used in the BOTB photos. The photos were shot at different times by different photographers against similar but different backdrops. One thing I noticed was that one of the backdrops has a splotch on it, so from that I was able to group the guitars that were photographed in the same shoot.. I then compared those guitars to the group photos in the back of BOTB and they all matched up to those in RP's collection.

When I saw the photo of Billy surrounded by the bursts, I put two and two together and figured out that they were RP's bursts. From there it was just a matter of matching up finishes and pickup configurations to determine the serial numbers. 9-0669 may be in error, but I'm pretty certain that the others are all correct.

Here's a larger image where you can see more detail:
