• Guys, we've spent considerable money converting the Les Paul Forum to this new XenForo platform, and we have ongoing monthly operating expenses. THE "DONATIONS" TAB IS NOW WORKING, AND WE WOULD APPRECIATE ANY DONATIONS YOU CAN MAKE TO KEEP THE LES PAUL FORUM GOING! Thank you!

Great article on the Beano Burst!

I can imagine potentially its a sore subject. these threads over the years always turn into conjecture about ECs "feelings"

I wish some guitar publication, or maybe Mr.Bacon the author of the article in question here would just ring up eric and ask for the definitive Beano interview, and if eric is unwilling then just say so once and for all.
It certainly would be good to get some clarity on this matter once and for all . Andy Babiuk would be the perfect author to do a deep dive investigation and drill down and get all the details .

the conjecture surrounding this guitar in particular is INSANE, i have been on this forum for 10+ years, checking in sometimes being more active then others but one thing u can always count on, on the old LPF is a good beano thread going.

I will say if it did surface with definitive proof of authenticity i think it would with out question become the most valuable guitar on the planet

.... Then again, we don't know how much flame it actually had. It is however an intriguing guitar mystery.
It's a plaintop for sure with no flame(from the b&w pics that we've seen over the years)....may have a little bit of grain in the maple top but that's about it......and identified as a cherry sunburst from what we've seen recently in one or two colour pics and as described by EC in '66.

Like I said in the last thread, it's rumoured here that Clapton knows where it is, knows who's got it and it's still in London. Either, one of his friends has it, he paid a ransom for it, or the person that has it warned him to back off or else.
London, in the mid 60s had some seriously shady characters knocking around, even in the music industry - Hendrix's manager was one - people who wouldn't think twice about breaking your legs, and a lot made a living from protection rackets.
It's been recorded that EC placed an ad for the return of his guitar and shortly after he was seen in a restaurant in conversation with 'a shady looking character'. He stopped looking for it at that point.
Was he told he could have it back for an extortionate amount of money? Was he warned to stop looking? Maybe he doesn't talk about it, because he likes having fingers?
At the time it went missing, Cream rehearsals, he was well known enough for someone to think there's some money to be made from him.

Best get Daniel Craig and Jason Statham on the job to handle the miscreants!!

Please yerself, but the Krays were real people, not fictional, and they weren't the only ones by a long way.
Don't forget, Clapton was a drug addict... maybe his dealer turned up for payment?

Don't know that he was addicted in '66.........later on he was though so history tells us.
Re this thread at this particular point...............we've headed into a good deal of supposition and conjecture which is irrelevant regarding the OP.........can't see this as being a positive thing.

In the midst of the nonsense being banded about, my own bit of silliness almost qualifies as evidence based material.

Not only did we find Beano, but we then proceeded to eat the bugger.....

Opportunists don't go back, in case they get caught. Only people who KNOW there won't be a problem go back.
Nothing else went missing.
A week later the empty case goes walkies.
Then not very long after that, the replacement got nicked... and NOBODY saw/heard/knows anything?
Do me a favour!!!

the idea the heavies of the era had a masterplan relating to ECs guitars seems a little outa focus, most likely it was no different then anyone of us having something ripped off at a local club, which most of us have probably gone thru. and at this point its less and less about how did it grow legs and walk away, and really the whole story now is WHERE IS IT presently and can anyone show us proof that it is what we would all hope it to be.
