• Guys, we've spent considerable money converting the Les Paul Forum to this new XenForo platform, and we have ongoing monthly operating expenses. THE "DONATIONS" TAB IS NOW WORKING, AND WE WOULD APPRECIATE ANY DONATIONS YOU CAN MAKE TO KEEP THE LES PAUL FORUM GOING! Thank you!

Greetings everyone.

Purchased this guitar a couple of months ago. It's a privilege and honor to own a guitar from this era. All original and well kept.
Apparently stored safely in its faux gator case with the original strap for years. Great color and near mint condition.

Problem is... rather than playing this in similar fashion as my others, I feel obligated to keep the condition as is.

Congrats! I do like it a lot.

Well, I know this feeling. Have the same problem with my original 1992
Zemaitis Metalfront. I hide it in it's case for months. Then I go... "rubbish ...
that guitar has to be played". And so it goes on and off for years now.

Congrats on your find and purchase! This is a fabulous example of a near mint '59 Junior. Amazing that the truss rod was never adjusted (and never needed to be!). Enjoy it in good health!

Play it, enjoy it! Just watch Pete Townshend and do nothing he does.

T.Allen - I believe that Buddy Rich had a similar opinion of Keith Moon's technical capabilities as you apparently do about PT.

Speaking of PT, just recently learned of Leslie West's work on NY sessions related to what became Who's Next. Have to believe that PT heard Mountain at Woodstock and thought, "hey, that big boy can make his Jr sing like an angel! Might need some of that on the next record." A couple of the tracks sounded pretty cool with Leslie adding fills and an aggressive edge to some of the comping.

Oh yeah, OP totally badass Jr, dig the stinger. Played a V that ha done for two weeks and the owner had to pry it out of my poor ass fingers. Looks like this:

Is this an original V with a stinger?!

OP, just beautiful guitar! The stinger really makes it stand out!

Not Pete's technical capabilities at all. When I think of a smashed guitar, Pete Townshend is the first name that comes to mind. Many did it, Pete did it best. šŸ˜œ

Got it. Always like PT's chordal work. Scalped some down front row 4 tickets to last Tampa Bay The Who show that happened to be right in front of his spot on stage. My son and I watched his hands all night, because he has some unique voicings, so we got a show and a guitar comping lesson. PT has never much of a lead player in an extended line way.

Interestingly, my son wondered why his tone was so wooly versus say Live at Leeds (his and my reference point). I pointed to the Fedner amps he was playing and my son said, "Dude, you should have lent him your Komet for the show." I agreed. Can tell my boy spends too much time with his old man.

Yup, the V is original. Apparently a few early ones got stingers. Was for sale for @$235K.

Would love to see that metalfront!!! I've loved them since I first saw the Faces in the 70s. I also know the feeling of playing a mint older guitar. Here's my 1974 L5s...

Hi rockabilly69,

I don't think that the admins would be amused when I post my Z-Metalfront here.

My boy came home from college after joining a frat addressing everyone as "Dude", OK by me but my wife took offense and said, "never ever address me as Dude".

Mostly, it's an exclamatory thing like, "Dude, check this out". Otherwise, it is Bub or mostly Dad.

Love the color and grain on that Jr! Many 58-60s are faded a kind of mud brownish and grain is obscured.

My favorite part of this '59 Les Paul Junior was the paint on the truss rod nut. It was completely undisturbed and exactly the way it came from the factory. If the paint on the nut is undisturbed, there is a pretty good chance that this truss rod nut was never adjusted (Just under 100% chance I would think?). Anyway, the guitar is that clean! Cleanest I've ever had and had the stinger. It was also a fabulous player and if I remember correctly, the neck relief measured about .006" which is well within the desired range for proper neck relief. The truss rod nut never needed adjustment and still doesn't need adjustment. What a guitar! More pictures of it here: 1959 Gibson Les Paul Junior Stinger.
