• Guys, we've spent considerable money converting the Les Paul Forum to this new XenForo platform, and we have ongoing monthly operating expenses. THE "DONATIONS" TAB IS NOW WORKING, AND WE WOULD APPRECIATE ANY DONATIONS YOU CAN MAKE TO KEEP THE LES PAUL FORUM GOING! Thank you!

So a couple of days ago I got a visit from a friend who brought along a few gems, amongst them a 1959 Custom and a loooooovely 1954 Goldtop. I’m still waiting for a 1955 LPC that I bought a few months back (due to COVID travel restrictions), so getting some time with an old Custom was great fun. The ’54 was beautiful, a lot of wear and tear and the gold back looked amazing. It has a serial # less than 100 apart from my ’54, and felt very similar to play although the neck was slightly more rounded than mine. Took a few pics that I thought I’d share, top to bottom is my ‘54, 1961 LP SG (sorry about that), 1959 LPC, 1958 jr, and another ‘54.

Thanks for posting...........such a bevy of vintage gats (y)
Last time I saw a Custom with the pup covers off was EC in '69 playing in Copenhagen with Delanie and Bonnie and George.........I got the somewhat misguided idea that it was his main gat at the time.

Truth be told, I'm not a huge fan of the triple-pickup customs, but DAMN!!!!!!! That musta been a noisy visit.
Inquiring minds want to know: what amps were given a workout with this stable?

I’m not a fan of the three pup LPC either, but there’s no denying that it sounded awesome. We fooled around with an old Deluxe Reverb and a couple of tweeds (53 princeton and a 58 champ), and left my Klon on for the day😂

Some fabulous looking Les Pauls there! And very well photographed. What can you tell us about the small plugged hole just below the treble side bridge post? Seems like a very benign repair, but I couldn't determine why a hole would be drilled there. School me on that one, would you?

I didn't ask the owner (the gold back and the LPC aren't mine), but it could have had a Bigsby fitted I guess. I'll ask him:)
