• Guys, we've spent considerable money converting the Les Paul Forum to this new XenForo platform, and we have ongoing monthly operating expenses. THE "DONATIONS" TAB IS NOW WORKING, AND WE WOULD APPRECIATE ANY DONATIONS YOU CAN MAKE TO KEEP THE LES PAUL FORUM GOING! Thank you!

Hello folks, first-time posting to the group so be gentle. :)

I pulled the trigger on my first Custom Shop Les Paul and I feel like a fool for not doing so sooner! The guitar is a 2021 '58 Standard in Lemonburst with '59 spec frets. I don't know how they number these things, but it was made in December 2020 so I hope the people in the shop were happy and full of Christmas cheer when they made it! The serial number is a 2021 number so maybe that's when they stamped it.

I spent lots of time and money on lesser guitars and thought the Gibson Custom Shop was for collectors only. Surely Tone could be found in the USA models for less. Well, my 2003 LP Standard 50's and 2017 LP Classic with Mojotone '59 PAF clones did sound pretty good, but you just don't know what you don't know. This '58 is on another level.

I could not be happier with the guitar and it really is a fine musical instrument as opposed to just a "guitar". I'm hearing things I never heard before out of the other guitars I've owned. I stuck some chords with the neck pickup and the sound actually got louder after the initial strum, the bridge pickup has harmonic sounds and overtones that I never heard coming out of my Friedman before. I timed a few notes for sustain vs the USA models I have and sure enough, there is a measurable increase in sustain.

This one has a neck output of 7.8 and the bridge is 7.7 (which seems odd to me). The neck is louder and more powerful sounding than the bridge - I will have to get used to that but there is a volume knob. The frets are med. jumbo '59 spec, so unless I'm wrong it's basically a '59 with a slightly bigger neck and aged inlays for a lot less than a '59. I'd love to know what the real differences are.

As a bonus, I think the guitar looks really nice. More importantly to me, it plays and sounds great. Thanks for looking and glad to have joined the site!

Nice piece. The CS guitars are very fine instruments- the best they have ever produced.
You can adjust the height of the neck PUP to achieve better balance- I like the neck a touch louder but adjust to taste.
Enjoy.

Thanks for all the nice words and advice. My problem now is selling my 2017 LP Classic, the neck is thin and cramps my hand (which was a big reason I purchased the '58) and I know I'll never play it. I"d like to hang it on the wall for decoration, but my wife is not into "guitar art". I think she has secret plans for the money if I DO sell it, lol.

Thanks! Inspired is the perfect word - inspired to play better and play more. Funny how I'm not inspired by the new exercise equipment I got last year however, lol.
Well, you know now that it was the exercise equipment fault!

Congratulations, it looks amazing!

Was it a stock guitar or custom order?
Hi and thanks. I bought the guitar from Mark's Guitar Loft. My understanding is that the guitar was part of a special batch. Purchasing from Mark was a great experience, but what I didn't realize was that the guitar is not warrantied from Gibson since he's not an authorized dealer. The warranty doesn't matter to me, but I did try and register it with Gibson which I would not have done had I realized. (Mark, if you're out there I hope there was no blowback from Gibson. I love the guitar and the service you provided.)

I could not be happier with the guitar and if I get another, it will be from MGL.

Sorry, long story short, it's a custom run, but not ordered by me. :)

Last I heard Authorized Gibson Historic dealers have a fair amount of skin in the game , I would not think some sort of action = Blowback by Gibson would be out of line .

I would find also interesting the supply chain, dealer as straw buyer ?

Also I believe you also need to have a brick & mortar store to be Authorized Gibson dealer .

If Guitar has a warranty Issue your relying on what ? : see key

Key :
Future considerations for money spent in the past ?
