• Guys, we've spent considerable money converting the Les Paul Forum to this new XenForo platform, and we have ongoing monthly operating expenses. THE "DONATIONS" TAB IS NOW WORKING, AND WE WOULD APPRECIATE ANY DONATIONS YOU CAN MAKE TO KEEP THE LES PAUL FORUM GOING! Thank you!

I am not an appraiser, I am not a dealer, just a long-time collector and scholar of fine vintage instruments. Always learning new things, despite many others I learned in the last 35 years. I went to Rudy's with a friend to look at the guitar and asked to see the inside; I was lucky that the guitar was open since they took photos and posted them somewhere; they also removed the logo 😳 to check underneath (why?). Not sure if on reverb or their website; I did not check yet.
Someone joined while we were there, a lot of curiosity!!!!
Looking carefully at some details in the cavities ( sorry, I am not sharing, experts know what facts, and I am not here to teach), they look what they are supposed to be. The pickguard is correct with roll marks at an angle and shows a lot of shrinkages. The fading under the pickguard and the input jack look consistent and not artificial. Solder joints are untouched, and pots are compatible with a 1958 flying v( actually, the digits on the potentiometers are spot on all the Vs that I saw in the past, and again experts are in the know of it). Dry old tape and dust inside the pots cavity, and all relevant markings are present. Pickup cavities were measured and are acceptable as their routings and details were supposed to be there. Input jack cavity has the very important details present on a 58 V.
The case is correct as all the other details I was looking for on the guitar!
The guitar blacklights correctly, for what it counts. I wasn't able to play it. Most likely other 20 details need to be verified, but I am happy with what I saw.
I am available for a second round if someone is going; in case, just pm me. I am sure a real buyer will go there with someone knowledgeable before pulling the trigger and buy, totally agree with Bursttech.

I am a friend of Kris and I like his V. My post count does not equal my knowledge.

Held? Not inspected internally?
Just held them as I wasn't trying to purchase any of them. The 1st was at Lloyd's shop in Hollywood in the late 80s or early 90s. (I can't remember the name his store, it was near GC on Gardner). The 2nd Mike Indelicato (sorry if I spelled it wrong), he ran E-Guitars and is a friend of a friend. The third was JB's. He had it at a LA show and had bought a friend of mine's Firebird V and we asked to look at his Flying V which he had on display and he let us.

You guys have better memories than I do! What was the name of Albert's store across the street from GC. When bursts were "only" $30k, I was considering getting one. He showed me a couple, but none of them really knocked me out so I passed. Oh well. Should have bought the 1st burst I checked out at Gil's in the early 80s as it was $3k which was a lot of money for somebody like me who was trying to put themself thru college.

this guitar
I just watch this vid (and never knew of the guitars history) and wondered why Rudy said “we don’t know how many they made?” and Mark replies .. “we know how many we shipped” .. surely this is an indication of how many were made đŸ€”

its a good idea but its not always 1:1 ....... gibson made stuff that surely went unaccounted for in shipping ledgers. prototypes, after the fact "parts bin" builds, in house stuff employees made for themself or family friends ect. there are lots of weirdo gibson and probably some pretty "stock" examples that fall outside the perview of the shipping logs
