I don't think anyone is doubting that these guitars turn up from time to time, but the OP in this instance was clearly talking a load of shite. All jokes aside, a customer of mine owns a "basement burst" which he found just 15 minutes from where I live. Here are excerpts from our correspondence when I was asking about how he acquired it:
"This guitar came out of a basement in Middletown a long, long time ago . It was laying face down on a dirt floor. It got a little dirt in the seam as you’ll see in the photos, and very minor water damage... but still plays and sounds great. The seam is not separated..., just has a little dirt in the finish where it joins. The case was on a shelf above a washing machine. I asked the drug addict I got it from why it was on the floor and his answer was “ the phone rang I guess...” it had been there a while. Wish it had been better taken care of, but then again if it had I might not have ended up with it"
"Jimmy was quite a smoker, and drinker, and drugs of every sort.....he’s probably dead by now. That’s been a long time ago. I gave him $4000 for it after him telling me he wanted $3741 for it.... Why that number? I couldn’t tell you.., maybe he owed it to a dope dealer. He was shocked when I told him to keep the change.... Even back then my friends thought I was crazy for paying “that much “ for a guitar"
In the context of this thread it sounds like just another bullshit folklore story, but its absolutely true.
The most worrying thing about this thread was that so many people here couldn't see through the shite and actually believed his story.
