V-related, though not Korina, and probably not ||(though you never know...) I saw this morning on Gibson's |F|B feed about possibly a Kirk Hammett signature / tribute?
no details, but more info later.

Are you referring to the explorer he's playing at the Gibson Garage?

Nope, there was one on his Instagram story from 10 hours ago with all the extra paraphernalia included with the limited model and the guitar in its case.

Unless the shot is from a few days ago and just added now.

Either way it’d be nice to hear what they’re like in person!

from GIBSON: All of the classic vintage Flying V features have been 100% accurately recreated in this Collector’s Edition model ? Nope !

- body/neck joint (back of the body where the neck meets the body (oval line instead of a more horizontal line on '50s original "V"s) is exactly like on my Korina 2010 Flying "V" not like a vintage 50's "V"
- ABR bridge placement is exactly like on my Korina 2010 Flying "V" not closer to the bridge pickup like we see on a vintage "V"
- the case: the 2010 edition is closer than this 2021 edition as far as interior pads and inside colour of the material.

The 2021 edition is quite something but not a clone, but an excellent reissue I think ! (They truly made an amazing reissue here, and amazingly aged by the Murphy Lab).

In the past I have owned an original 1959 Flying "V" (#9 0973). A friend of mine owned for many many years #8 2840 (blackguard)
I know a little about 50's Korina "V"s.V_comp.jpg
Lokks like they found a nice batch of Korina (Limba wood) for these 2021 Korinas.

I'm certainly not sweating the little differences. It's Gibson after all...I keep expecting them to get it more right with each passing iteration, and trying to sell to another audience. But I knew that going in. (And I don't mind critiquing Gibson, given their critique of those that helped them build up their knowledge of old Les Pauls via the CC program.)

It's an INCREDIBLE sounding guitar. It does that V thing, even more than I hoped it would.

Hmmm - I didn't see that on his page.

Nevermind - I found it in his profile. (I'm an idiot wrt Intagram.)

Nice one sws1, and it does that V thing ? So they did a good job like they did with the Murphy Lab Les Paul ! (vibes & tone).

Congrats on the V! I think they went to some pretty great lengths with these. Especially, with the volume of work they're putting out. Very curious about your thoughts on the BRW board.

I just might have some pictures to throw up in the coming week myself :)

It's nice and dark and uniform colored. It doesn't have the multi-colored pattern that you see in some boards (or in furniture). Rather, it's a very dark brown. But up close, you can still see the color pattern.
Not as dark as my old LP, but I think that might have 60 years of finger-gunk on it to make it look very dark.

They truly work on this 2021 Korina "V", frankly compared to my 2010, sws1's Korina V is quite something.

I give my 2010 a 50/100 as far as replica and 98/100 on these 2021 "V"s.
My 2 cents...

p.s. If I could, I would sell my 2010 Korina to get one of these for sure. But I would need to sell my Pearly on top of the V to be able to get it. Ah! I'll keep my 2010 Korina :sneaky:

Yes, I know exactly what you mean. There was one example at Musician's Friend Private Reserve that was reddish on one side and

Yes, I know exactly what you mean. The only examples I'm not crazy about are when half the board is a different color than the other. I did see one like that at Musician's Friend. I think you snagged a good one. I love the grain on the body too.

Here's an original V with the pattern you mention.

I don't expect that every '58 V was the same as regards the positioning of this and that on the body, there were 81 or was it 91 of them afterall.
Was discussing this with a guy on youtube the other day re these reincarnations from CS, he was most probably a Fender player who couldn't understand the inconsistencies and QC with the Gibson products, value for money etc.
Don't know what happens in the Fender camp with their reissues but suspect they may not be absolutely perfect repros either.

So.. it looks like I just sealed the deal on mine. Question for you guys: I'm considering having them swap out the white pick guard for the black one that's included. I think it would suit this particular guitar better. I am just concerned if that might affect the value at all.
