• Guys, we've spent considerable money converting the Les Paul Forum to this new XenForo platform, and we have ongoing monthly operating expenses. THE "DONATIONS" TAB IS NOW WORKING, AND WE WOULD APPRECIATE ANY DONATIONS YOU CAN MAKE TO KEEP THE LES PAUL FORUM GOING! Thank you!

Is 9.4 lbs considered real heavy for a 2019 R6?

I have a line on a R6 thats been damaged in shipping so I cant get it at a decent price ( 2350$) Purely cosmetics damage, It plays and sounds good, the neck is relatively straight but its HUGE and the guitar feels heavier than my R8 with a slimmer neck…Im guessing the baseball neck on this goldtop is probably where the extra weight is coming from :ROFLMAO: Is 9.4 lbs average fir one of those or is it on the porky side of things ?

I consider anything over 9 lbs to be heavy. The average is probably 8.5-9 lbs.
So , you think its well above average weight?I suspect my scale might be off a little as well…is it very uncommon to be im the mid 9s for a 2019?

I wouldn't buy a damaged R6 for $2,350. That's how much they used to go for mint before covid.

Buy a digital scale, they're cheap enough.

Today that's a decent price, IMHO.

Average tending to Above Average. Not absolutely "Heavy" but then's that's subjective to the player.

Year? ... As the years go by, 'choice' weight even from the reissue light wood seems to show up more in the burst tops, from my unscientific observation.

If it's still NOS/demo/damaged but under warranty with just cosmetic damage I'd be willing to go for it. I would ask about tryout and return policy, of course. Warranty because you mention the neck... "relatively straight" which is worrisome. Necks are the No.1 reason for warranty with Gibsons, IMHO.

If used, then negotiate a deal considering the above - and get it checked out by a qualified luthier before best and final offer.

Yep that's a heavy one and if it floats your boat why not.
The neck is an element obviously to a guitars weight but it's the body that's the main culprit.

I just played a 9.2 lb R9 , sitting yesterday . Didn't noticed the weight, and It was a concern , as most of my up's are around 8.5 ,didn't keep it for other reasons . My first LP custom (87) 9lbs15oz sustained for ever .

Truth be told Im trading an amp valued at around 1900$ and Im adding 300$ on top.I dont play the amp, it was paid for a loooong time ago , Im in a small town, absolutely zero market for that amp locally so I would have to ship it…and shipping an amp is always a bit of a pain, plus I could be sitting on that thing hopping to make a deal for months…This feels like Im spending 300$ to get an R6 and hoping I could get 2200$ if I choose to sell it but I cant be sure with the damage and the weight. Is that reasonable to think I could get that price?

Sounds like a good risk deal if you don't use the amp (and it's not a special rarity). I would do that deal if the guitar was sound... how bad of cosmetics can it be, and do you really care if it's cool?

The story goes like this, it was sent to the current owner in the wet cold winter and the guitar didnt have time to acclimatized properly when he received it My luthier suspects it was failed attempt to relic the guitar and was probably done on purpose). The finish checked and the binding shrunk…I really dont care how it looks…I just dont want to end up with a worthless guitar

I think that ^^ checking looks rather cool. Is rest of the top like that?

A "relatively straight" neck? Let your luthier have a look at the truss rod & see if it maybe just needs an adjustment.
If this doesn't help, I'd pass.

If neck can be straightened, if it's a good sounding lester, if you can live with the weight & the big neck, and you plan to keep it, I'd jump on it -with that amp trade-in deal in mind.

The neck IS straight, and its big at .93 but I can play it fine and whole top is like that yeah…
