• Guys, we've spent considerable money converting the Les Paul Forum to this new XenForo platform, and we have ongoing monthly operating expenses. THE "DONATIONS" TAB IS NOW WORKING, AND WE WOULD APPRECIATE ANY DONATIONS YOU CAN MAKE TO KEEP THE LES PAUL FORUM GOING! Thank you!

Great clip , I always feel inspired by Joes playing totally it blows my mind . Although I then here someone else play his gear and how terrible it sounds it puts vintage gear in prospective for me . The guy is a amazing vocalist & guitar player songwriter & works very hard .

Sounds fantastic. He said that he rolls off the tone to 5 due to SG's being a brighter guitar.

Woman tone????
Hey Wally, he was at Norm's and just commented that he should do what he preaches. Just said that why he normally doesn't gig with SG's was the tailpiece, (wiggle stick) staying in tune wise and then said that SG's being a bright guitar, follow his own advice. I took it that he was trying to get more to his own LP tone by rolling off the tone knob. 5 really doesn't get you there in my experience with Woman tone of those tone pots. You know that for sure.

these paf sg,s in my opinion will give any burst a run for their money, they sound spectacular, and the necks with a good setup play real nice and fast.
these are still a bargain, heck they are cheaper now than they were before. i think they were 30k for a bit?
the only problem and to me its a real problem is the neck flexing out of tune. i was standing with a strap playing clean and could hear it plain as day, i have to be real carefull what kind of pressure i put on the neck. maybe when your cranked up it doesnt matter, hell your clothes are all ripped up, youve had 11 beers, who's taking notes?

agogetr, have you ever played an Ampeg Dan Armstrong? Playing that will break you from putting pressure on a neck.
I started out on a L.P. (SG) Junior and never noticed neck flex. I bought a Dan Armstrong in 1972 and immediately noticed that even a slight pressure would bend that one.

i bought a see through armstrong in a junk shop for 35 dollars! i havent strung it up yet but my pal had one, i did notice it had a super nice fretboard on it. i have an armstrong 4/12 cabinet thats really good too
its interesting i havent noticed my sg junior being unstable. i showed up to buy it for 550 and the guy kept upping the price while i was there! finnally it was 100 dollars more and he made me agree when my washing machine broke i would bring it to him to repair it! good thing i have a whirlpool. oh and i had to bring him back an old violin i had so they could donate it to their church.
did your armstrong have the changeable pickups? mine has a carvin one screwed in place

Yes, I bought mine new; so It came with two pickups. I bought it in San Angelo, TX while I was in the USAF. I should have asked to see the sunburst Les Paul they had on top of the display case..about 10 feet off of the floor, right?

air force. good man. thanks for your service. my pops is air force retired. he worked on the sr71. told me some crazy stuff about it. top secret of course lol
i always thought the sideways vibrato on the sg standard probably added sustain. i dare not touch mine when playing in fear it will go out of tune, dont touch it! dont even look at it!
