• Guys, we've spent considerable money converting the Les Paul Forum to this new XenForo platform, and we have ongoing monthly operating expenses. THE "DONATIONS" TAB IS NOW WORKING, AND WE WOULD APPRECIATE ANY DONATIONS YOU CAN MAKE TO KEEP THE LES PAUL FORUM GOING! Thank you!

I walked into GC yesterday and the last thing on my mind was buying a new guitar. But, I played a new Gibson Les Paul Standard 50's and I was immediately blown away! After playing it for about 30 minutes, I plunked my money down and walked out with it. Everything about the guitar was top-notch. The feel, the tone, the fit and finish.....the guitar was a complete winner. I previously had a 2011 R8 and I could just never get the guitar right. I changed pickups and pots, hardware....the guitar just never achieved the fat tone that I was looking for. The new Gibson USA guitar beats that R8 hands down! I've always loved Burstbucker pickups and they sound wonderful in this guitar. The pots are amazing.........smooth as silk and 7 really sounds like 7 - 10 really sounds like 10. I can get so many shades of tones out of this guitar just with the volume knob alone. The tone pots are equally as useful. Other than tweaking the intonation a little, the guitar was set up nicely right off the rack. It's great to be back in the Les Paul family with a guitar I'm absolutely thrilled with. Great job Gibson!

I've bought 3 new LPs since 2019 and they all have been spot-on... especially the fretwork (4th one is en route lol). One of them was a spontaneous buy at GC, similar to your experience. It was an Ebony Classic that blew me away right off the rack... wasn't leaving GC without it.

I totally agree with every single word here, and I've been a hard sell on Gibson. I was so sick of the declined quality in nearly every one I picked up in a store that I had given up on Gibson, written them off and just stopped looking anymore. PRS and even Epiphone is where my interest moved. It was a LP Standard 50's AND the new LP Deluxe that absolutely blew me away. My local shop, whom I trust, talked up the "new" Gibson Original Series and let me take one home to try out through my own rig. I ended up buying one of each (not at the same time though 😁). In particular, the fretwork, dark rosewood board, v/t pots and the pickups stood out as the most radical improvement to me. I'm still floored every time I play them. I will wait and see though if Gibson can turn around the whole company as there's some extensive (but earned) reputation damage done over the past several years by the previous senior management. Good on the new management for the implemented positive changes though.(y):)

The new 50’s guitars are the real thing! I agree with the above. My 50’s Gold Top really floored me. I think Gibson is making an honest attempt to get it right!

Ditto from me. I had been watching Sweetwater's website last month and they have been pretty much "sold out" of Les Paul's. On the 10th they put a demo on their site. I called when they opened and ask them to hold it for me. They didn't show a picture of it but I didn't care, I wanted it in the worst way. 40 minutes later I arrived and they brought from the warehouse. They opened the box and I opened the case and was blown away !! it was perfect. The fit and finish was flawless. Even the binding was picture perfect. I couldn't pull the cash out of my wallet fast enough !!! I also believe Gibson is back !!!!IMG_20210812_193458783-2721x4032.jpg

I was going to get the 50s Standard GT w/P90s for my birthday in the middle of Marc. Sweetwater had a bunch in stock in early February so I figured I’d order it giving 2-2.5 weeks for delivery. NOPE. Out of stock. Grrrrrr

The wait continues

talking about bein' a hard sell... i had a couple of old RD Standards in the past i wish i had kept but have refused to buy anymore Gibsons based on recent prices and quality. i am bloody 60 now and i remember GREAT Gibsons for like $900 hardshell case and all lol. nowadays you are lucky to get a cheap gig bag if anything unless you want to pay really stupid prices :( bottom line... my pricing structure lives in the past. after all it is only a bit of wood, plastic and metal lol

having said that... THAT is all in the past now. this morn i purchased a Tobacco Burst 50's from Sweetwater... on the payment plan mind you. they had it on 48 month 0% for a change but only for a few days. i had been saving up to build a new computer BUT i blew my wad by paying off my balance and once it posted i put the 50 Series (Burstbuckers) in the cart and bought it. i don't like what i am paying for it lol but heck i will ignore that and just make my $56 payments. been mostly a strat man all my life for it's versatility overall. like i said i have owned a couple of old RD Standards and loved the 'weigh' they played. i also played a few LPs and SGs belonging to other band mates over the years. (fell in love with a blonde fretless wonder and a black beauty) but ever since i was young in the back of my mind i wanted a good Les Paul like the old ones so i am taking a chance here. the "nicotine stained" LP should be here Friday so fingers crossed. not knocking Sweetwater but the last guitar i bought (an OD Green EVH Wolfgang Special) in 2017 had a gouge knocked out of the side of it when i received it but Sweetwater was on the ball and sent me a replacement ASAP. i am just praying there is no such mishap and they treat it with kid gloves.

i have been reading about and watching videos about the 50-60 series and i think people are very happy with them overall. we will see Friday... and if all goes well i will post some pics of it. TBH... i am about giddy as a school boy and may have to sleep with it the first night to consummate the marriage lol the only thing i had against the LP (of old) is the weight... and the overall thick sound all the time lol... but that thing will break the back of a strong man on stage and this new model is a good bit heavier than most of recent dates (mine supposedly weighs 10lb even). but the thing is... i am now old and do not perform anymore so i suppose it will not kill me to let it sit on my knee right here at the desk lol

cheers
