• Guys, we've spent considerable money converting the Les Paul Forum to this new XenForo platform, and we have ongoing monthly operating expenses. THE "DONATIONS" TAB IS NOW WORKING, AND WE WOULD APPRECIATE ANY DONATIONS YOU CAN MAKE TO KEEP THE LES PAUL FORUM GOING! Thank you!

We had to move my mom to assisted living a while back and of course I began thinking where I'll end up if I make it that long. Not a great thought but I was wondering if you could still play what gear you have would you take with you to god's waiting room? I would assume my 1/2 stack would be out of the question but a small amp with headphones? may have to let the Trad go because it's over 9 lbs but I have a reissue black guard Tele that weighs 6 lbs that might make the trip. Might have to adopt a new cat too.

My pick for guitar and amp would be my '58 335 and a Deluxe.
When I head into retirement living eventually that'll be what I take with me.........plus a soundproofed room ;)

Careful you might be a designated entertainer for the facility. Brush up on holiday songs.

JMHO, Depending on your physical condition, you may have lots of other things to worry about and your fingers may not be so nimble. If it were me, I'd just sell them all and hope they get a new owner that enjoys them for years to come and use the money for that expensive place. I'd rather not worry about them in a room with an open door that I am not in for long periods of time.

After all, we are just caretakers of these fine musical instruments.

I visit my mom often, trust me when you get there you'll be in your room a lot.

I've been working in an independent living community (they won't say facility) and there are a couple people that play.
One has an electric rig - I think just a guitar and relatively small combo - Deluxe Reverb size - that lives at his son's house not far away.
They all just have an acoustic in the building. For one thing, the apartments are too small for pretty much any sizable rig, and amplified would be too much.
Personally, if I was to go with an electric, I'd proabbly have my headphone amp (POD 2.0) and maybe a very small amp with a built in attenuator, that goes to a quarter or less watt.
I might consider, if I was moving tomorrow, and therefore having to sell my Marshalls et al, replacing them with the Fender Tonemaster Deluxe Reverb. That one sounds good even on the quietest setting.

I live in one of those places and it sucks. Everything is controlled by the nazi's with their ID badges and they don't allow anything out of their purview. How I got here is a long story but I'm getting the frick out as soon as I can to go live in a condo in New Orleans.

Bear in mind...when I get to one many of you will be joining me.

As we will outnumber our younger "caretakers" we will set out own rulez.

I propose we do full stack concerts on Friday and Saturdays.

Practice every other day on 20 watts.

I suspect may of our cell-mates will enjoy the same types of music we do.

Laundry will have to be on Sundays as we pickup all the undergarments off'n the stage.

Monday will be the "claim yer gotchies" table in the game room...

Rock'nRoll.

Too complicated Ren.

I can barely remember what day it is now....and I'm only a young sort....

Plus I'll be too busy digging the tunnels., and emptying the soil down me pants in the dining room.

Warders.

I know you may find this hard to believe Ren, but I do have a very very vexatious side.

I intend to take it alive and kicking into dotage.

I'm like a farce of nature....

I am more like the wind.

Like you don't want to be on the down side.

Foul most of the time...

At first I said ES-175 -- you know, electric and acoustic sound.

But I already find a big box guitar uncomfortable. So, something little like a Stratocaster or a Les Paul, and nobody even has to hear it if I play unamplified.

Do they make an okay headphone amps these days? I used to have a Rockman but that sappy Tom Scholz sound got on my nerves.

Please....if I make it that long, put me in a home without anybody playing electric guitar. Also, leave the drums at home. Have some courtesy for your fellow aged residents. Not that people give a damn about others these days.

Honestly, by the time you're in assisted living, playing guitar is going to be the least of your worries. Like I said, I work at an independent living place, and
even those that used to play are mostly past it. I think we have a couple people who do still play, but a lot who used to.
