• Guys, we've spent considerable money converting the Les Paul Forum to this new XenForo platform, and we have ongoing monthly operating expenses. THE "DONATIONS" TAB IS NOW WORKING, AND WE WOULD APPRECIATE ANY DONATIONS YOU CAN MAKE TO KEEP THE LES PAUL FORUM GOING! Thank you!

Hello,
I’m new. The other day I was at GC and played this 59 reissue ice tea sunburst. Maybe the best guitar I have ever played. Unfortunately they want $7k. New boat or Les Paul?

Does a 59 reissue float?
No probally not, but thats why you need to decided whether you want to float, or ride the lightning.Since you created this topic, asking whether you should buy an R9 or a new boat, i gave you my opinion, since thats what you seemed to be looking for.

Given your reply, perhaps you answered your own question, ...boats are cool too

That price is to scare off tire kickers- which scratch guitars, drop them, and are generally a nuisance to retailers. I am pretty sure if you waved a credit card, or some other store-of-value in their general direction it could be had for $5300-5500.
The new ones are really something for some reason. They probably rot your teeth or cause some kind of creeping dermatitis or other degenerative condition. You must have it now.
Good luck.

Absolutely, last summer the asking price for my 2019 60th Anniversary R9 special order gloss model, was $5,995 brand new.I made an offer for $4,800 and they accepted

You're not asking the right question.

It should be: Can I sit on a boat while playing a 59 reissue?
The subsequent question would be: Can I sit on a 59 reissue and play a boat?

I hope this clears things up.

In layman terms: how much time do you spend on a boat vs. how much time do you spend on a 59 Reissue?

You can play that guitar everyday, but take that boat out everyday and you’ll go broke paying for gas. There’s only one GAS.

I agree, plus depending on where you live, you cant take that boat out every day, like here in Massachusetts.

Wife wants a boat and l have a Strat, Tele, PRS and a 1970 Martin D-28 (my favorite). I showed her that beautiful 59 burst. She said “you have enough guitars.”

That’s a luxury choice you need to make, Not sure what kind of boat you can get for 7k but for most players 7k is out of reach.
