• Guys, we've spent considerable money converting the Les Paul Forum to this new XenForo platform, and we have ongoing monthly operating expenses. THE "DONATIONS" TAB IS NOW WORKING, AND WE WOULD APPRECIATE ANY DONATIONS YOU CAN MAKE TO KEEP THE LES PAUL FORUM GOING! Thank you!

Current bursts for sale...

Thanks for the clarification. they have a bunch of decently priced vintage gibsons and fenders on vintageandrare, and every time I’ve asked I get the same reply. «This one is sold, but I can find you a similar guitar». hopeless.
With that reply from them, you might have saved yourself a lot of grief..

No grief at all, unfortunately Spot is not within reach but as I am in London for some days I thought it would be nice to have a look. And I knew about these guys, just wasn’t sure if it was actually them (with the Hanks-link I thought perhaps it was legit).

Take the nighttrain to Paris and you can actually see Spot.

There's a '59 LP for sale at Rumble Seat. That guitar looks really nice, but it has been adversited for while now. Not sure that it has any issues, but what are your thoughts on the fact that the guitar has been for sale for a while now? Is it price? Or issues...don't think it has any, but any thoughts on it would be appreciated.

This one?

A gorgeous example for sure, BUT

I'ts a stinger, but with no mention thereof.

If Gibson did the stinger, then where is the serial no.??
And if it was not Gibson who did the stinger, then why was it done? To hide a repair?
Why no mention of it in the description?
It might be revealed if one gets a chance to read the Dapra book, but c'mon fellas, at $375K I'd expect such a specimen to be in consummate condition..

NO, NOT in ANY WAY have I written or said that I think this burst is fake! Why do you think I believe that??
On the contrary, I believe it to be the real thing, but with an important issue, which is not addressed by the seller.
THAT is my concern with this burst. Well, that and the price tag..

I saw the Walsh Burst, aka "Rocky Mountain Way" at Willie's this morning. More, HERE. Ironically, I think he recorded RMW on a Norlin. This listing could be the one he picked up later (9-1081?) and was shown playing on the inner sleeve of So What. The listing doesn't give the serial or a price. I guess that would mean it is back from France? Isn't that where it was for a while?

I think the inference is that the guitar has had a broken headstock. The black patch on the back of the headstock is sometimes used to cover up the damaged area after a successful repair, and is known as a stinger.

Here's one that's popped up on an upcoming auction with HA:

A 1958 Gibson Les Paul Standard known as George Harrison's "Ransom" Les Paul.

This is a 1958 sunburst Gibson Les Paul Standard that was offered by the Quiet One in a rather twisted tale of theft.
It started with a cherry red 1957 Gibson Les Paul Standard originally nicknamed "Lucy." It was gifted to Harrison by his friend Eric Clapton. Unfortunately, it was stolen in Beverly Hills and sold to the legendary Whalin's Sound City music store on Sunset Blvd in 1973.

The cherry red guitar was sold to a musician from Mexico named Miguel Ochoa who was staying in town visiting a friend.
With a small paper trail via information written on the sale's receipt, Harrison called the house of the friend Ochoa stayed with and was furious. When Ochoa heard about the call from Harrison, he thought this was some joke.
After some negotiating with Ochoa (including an initial plea of paying Ochoa the amount paid for it from the store), Ochoa considered his options, but ultimately decided to go back to Mexico with Lucy. Harrison then offered a trade. Ochoa demanded a 1958 Les Paul Standard, which was purchased from Norman Harris (Norman's Rare Guitars), along with a Fender Precision bass, for Lucy.

Ochoa accepted the guitars in the trade, and he kept this "Ransom" Les Paul until 1983. Needing some money to pay for a house, he sold it to his boss, Nadine's Music owner, Robert Truman. Hollywood-based Nadine's was a store for musicians, run by musicians. All kinds of musicians walked through its doors.

Rare '58 'Burst' with a history. The pickup covers appear to have been removed and reinstalled. The electronics are original but the pots are black beauty Sprague and original pots with 134808 pot codes (8th week of 1958) The tuners are non-original but are earlier no-line Kluson's. Shaft holes have been sized for Grovers, so no extra holes are present. Original frets show moderate wear. 9.3lbs. Original hard case included. Condition: Very Good.

This 59 just popped up on my Faceplant page. It's for sale at a place called Well Strung Guitars. Posted by a David Davidson who has an association with the Songbirds Foundation. Very nice!

Dave has posted 3 (maybe 4) bursts for sale over the past few days. Each better than the last.

Dave and Paige Davidson at last count have approximately 20 bursts at their shop, Well Strung Guitars in Farmingdale New York. Great people and great guitars! And 20 minutes from my house. Lucky me! Although I’ll never be able to afford to buy one, so unlucky me LOL. But those of you that can, this place is a candy store!… This picture of me taken a couple months ago shows about a dozen bursts as well as many ‘50s goldtops. Since this picture was taken he got in another nine bursts! Some of those new arrivals are below the picture of me.
