• Guys, we've spent considerable money converting the Les Paul Forum to this new XenForo platform, and we have ongoing monthly operating expenses. THE "DONATIONS" TAB IS NOW WORKING, AND WE WOULD APPRECIATE ANY DONATIONS YOU CAN MAKE TO KEEP THE LES PAUL FORUM GOING! Thank you!

Amazing headstock repair!

You answered yourself to your question.
Hopefully you are aware that the humbucker in question is factory fitted on a 1962 Gibson ?
That's why I asked what your point is with your post:

"The mini-humbucker as used on Les Paul Deluxe or Epiphones are very different from the Firebird mini-humbuckers."

The mini here is the Johnny Smith style. Flatter (~.4") than the Minihums used on Deluxes and epiphones (.66") and fitted with mounting bars to the fretboard edges.

The Firebird pickups have two magnets, non-adjustable poles and much higher output.
And back on topic, here's Gibson and Fender style hanging wire.

I am aware that it is factory fitted on a '62 Gibson, and unusual.
As you posted that this pickup was used on EPI and later on Firebirds, I pointed, as an answer to the interrogative end of your post, that the Firebird pickups are IMO quite different than the mini-humbucker as found on EPI and, later on Les Paul Deluxe guitars.

Didn't you notice my questionmark in the post? I didn't post it as as fact, but as a question.

I wrote:

That's why I was curious as to why you posted the info re. later Epi & LP deluxes..
Cheers, mate :)

I guess that it is clear now that it was in answer to your question.
Cheers!:)

How did the front come out? Don’t breaks make the guitar sound better🤷🏻‍♂️

Saw this on Instagram, Ian is a wizard! I'd also rather have as invisible repair as possible, but like you would be happy for it to show up under blacklight.

With storing them I do both - get as many on the wall as possible (using Hercules mounts) and the rest on stands.

Cue gratuitous gear shots:

All that period correct orange candy works very well with the paint/carpet scheme!

Perhaps change the snub nose display cases to match... 🍑

The only things I put on stands or hangers are couch plinkers and assorted beaters.
It's nice to look at my stuff and think, "ooooh...mine, mine, mine..." but...well...maybe not.

I tend to fall in this camp as well.

I use my powers of Remote Viewing to appreciate what I have, until they come out to play.

That said, there is risk in everything... I've had a case slam down and the clasp scarred the top of an R9.

Again, down to my own stupidity: Must keep up proper handling discipline!

If only we could learn to play thickly bubblewraped guitars.

Could be a new feature.

Could this be what inspired the ZZ Top fuzzy guitars? (Extra padding in case of a fall) ;)

Nice.
I've seen similar pickups, but not from the Gibson factory.
Very cool.
Started on the Johnny Smith model. Often called a "johnny Smith" pickup.

Came back on the Herb Ellis model for a while more recently.

When I saw this thread I was thinking "why is Ed A posting a 10 year old thread again"?

Turns out that Ian Davlin (I always remembered that name) worked miracles on a 53/57 conversion of Ed already back in 2012. Here are the pictures of his stellar repair work on the headstock - but us folks want to know....... is this the same guitar? Wood grain seems to say it is..

Yep, same guitar... I had him hide an old smiley crack repair back then.... but alas, the pictures on this thread are from a break back in December.... I got the guitar back from Ian in February, have it tuned to pitch and play it every day... as if nothing ever happened!

A great memory of this conversion... I had the honor of meeting Joe B back in 2012 and he was kind enough to use my goldtop at his show... here he is tearing it up on this guitar during an encore at the Tilles Center!

So many cool guitars hangers are available. Is this some sort of Luddite protest about using technology?

The simple wire is invisible and is basically free. I actually prefer it. I think it's the "coolest"
