• Guys, we've spent considerable money converting the Les Paul Forum to this new XenForo platform, and we have ongoing monthly operating expenses. THE "DONATIONS" TAB IS NOW WORKING, AND WE WOULD APPRECIATE ANY DONATIONS YOU CAN MAKE TO KEEP THE LES PAUL FORUM GOING! Thank you!

(double checking my calendar and the date of this thread)

Yep, it's April 2022 and people are still rage posting about aged guitars as if they were invented yesterday.

Never change, Geetar Interwebz, never change.

What are you even talking about?
These guitars are pre-beat-to-shit from the factory and MADE to look like somebody didn't fastidiously care for their guitar.
They reflect being owned by a normal Joe who doesn't obsess about how many windings are on the post or what the thumbwheels are made of.
The "person" who "owned" this guitar chose to top-wrap the tailpiece and wind the strings up from the bottom, to reduce break angle at the nut and possibly improve tuning and feel.
If you're going to pay $7k for a guitar that looks like somebody adjusted the tailpiece with a quarter without slacking the strings and hit it with a wad of keys, isn't complaining about how it's strung up a little absurd?
It's like buying a used car and complaining that it doesn't have your preference of mirror adjustment and tire pressure.

this post is something of a classic

it seems i never asked the question i wanted too when i posted this ...

was this guitar strung this way from Gibson or was it strung this way by sweetwater and/or the buyer and then returned by the buyer because they didn't approve of it's tone ?

In answer to your question:

Why does it matter?

How does it sound TO YOU?

Could be they changed the strings for you there.

And somebody did it weird.

And it lowers the value of the guitar not one iota.

HOW DOES IT SOUND TO YOU?

I frequently change the strings as soon as I receive a guitar, particularly if I don't care for the sound.

Got a gem of a Martin that way.

Every time I have gotten a new six string I have it set up to my specs and with the strings I use .

In answer to your question: you didn't answer chit

Why does it matter? not at all, was just curious and wanted to point out an oddity on a "new guitar"

How does it sound TO YOU? how the duck should I know, it's in their warehouse

Could be they changed the strings for you there. No chit sunshine, but not for me, for the previous owner that returned it

And somebody did it weird. weird ?, it's ingenious ... weird is not being able to answer a multiple choice question

And it lowers the value of the guitar not one iota. yuh fudge dude, i'm starting to render/construct (get it) an opinion that you're of the party that doesn't answer questions but ask a different question and then tries to lead the topic astray

HOW DOES IT SOUND TO YOU? do i need to repeat myself

I frequently change the strings as soon as I receive a guitar, particularly if I don't care for the sound. that's an A+ for you, captain obvious

Got a gem of a Martin that way. a 1940 D-45, i'm guessing
enjoy you day

How does it sound TO YOU? how the duck should I know, it's in their warehouse Ohhhh. What warehouse? Do they have gummy bears?

Could be they changed the strings for you there. No chit sunshine, but not for me, for the previous owner that returned it IT WAS RETURNED? From where? Was it sunny there?

And somebody did it weird. weird ?, it's ingenious ... weird is not being able to answer a multiple choice question I LOVE multiple choice questions! Give me one.

And it lowers the value of the guitar not one iota. yuh fudge dude, i'm starting to render/construct (get it) an opinion that you're of the party that doesn't answer questions but ask a different question and then tries to lead the topic astray What size is your favorite thing?

HOW DOES IT SOUND TO YOU? do i need to repeat myself Apparently so, I am very hard of hearing; how does it sound to you?

I frequently change the strings as soon as I receive a guitar, particularly if I don't care for the sound. that's an A+ for you, captain obvious I LIKE titles! Thank you Private Douche!

Got a gem of a Martin that way. a 1940 D-45, i'm guessing Nope, but this is fun. Guess again!

But hopefully we can both smile, I DID get a kick outta yer post!

I was not offended at all.

Life should be fun.

And sorry I misunderstood your point.

I love kaktails ( we don't call them cocktails here as that may be offensive for some ).

I am always trying to be jovial and I will remember that, I don't REALLY take offense often. Though I may post in that way it is USUALLY in fun.

But now I REALLY AM GOING TO GIVE MY OPINION ON YOUR QUESTION AS YOU ARE PROBABLY DYING TO KNOW IT:

Drum roll please?

I think Mumfry or one of his minions did the top wind and the top wrap.

And I think it is TOTALLY COOL!

But I wonder if even that slight change UP in angle on the posts might make it easier to snap off the head?

We are talking tons of pressure here.
