• Guys, we've spent considerable money converting the Les Paul Forum to this new XenForo platform, and we have ongoing monthly operating expenses. THE "DONATIONS" TAB IS NOW WORKING, AND WE WOULD APPRECIATE ANY DONATIONS YOU CAN MAKE TO KEEP THE LES PAUL FORUM GOING! Thank you!

Survey : if the Historics were made in China but half the price - would you buy one ?

We should have a modern day "Disco Demolition" here in Chicago but this time with Chinese made guitars.

Fender is as American as Gibson ..... ask anyone

Nobody is freaking out about Fender making guitars overseas and all the dealers you guys know talk them up and act real prideful when they show them to you.

They act like the country its made in is no big deal at all.,,,,,, and its not like Fender is selling them cheap either.

Go into a guitar center .... look at the guitars young guys are picking up to play or what they are eyeing - it aint Les Paul historics - its Fenders - MEXICAN FENDERS

Rock has been dead for what 30 years now ? ..... what is the biggest rock band to come along since what the band Creed ? ------- NONE ..... there have been no new Led Zeps , A/C D/C , Guns and Roses for decades

younger folks now dont give a shit about playing ZZTOP thru a tweed champ and getting the perfect pearly gates tone .....

what would be so crazy about being able to buy a super high quality guitar -that says GIBSON - not a dopy EPI ,,,,,, for 2800 bucks ?

Grestch does that too ..... they have super nice guitars made overseas and real expensive USA customshop models ...... I am here to tell you those overseas guitars are KILLER for the money ...... I bought one

example ..... you could go to guitar center and get a fine guitar like this for under 3 ..... or if a american made version tickles your fancy - spend 7

(Big AL is mad ..... I think the guy was born mad . ... or he needs a good nap )
WTF????? Are you thick? or is it reading that confuses you?. No anger, I simply noted a trend of dumbass, speculative, twisted WTFory what if and other nonsense posted by the op. It stands out.

Maybe you've missed my posts about Mexican Fenders?? Gibson is Gibson. Should remain that way. You are very wrong about sales and trends as well as future projection. In the 50's kids got Airlines, Silvertones and Harmonys. Later cheap Japanese imports and later copies of better guitars. Tiesco Del Ray to Ibanez. Later still Asian Corts and Hondos. On and on, decade after decade, thru Rock deaths by Paul Anka crooners, Disco, Synth Pop, Hip Hop, Transe Beat and
every other new trend,on and on decade after decade.

Resurrected by British Invasion, Punk, Grunge, Jam and whatever. Rock endured as well as demand for USA Gibsons.
So go ahead, blame the lack of agreement of your weak opinion on the false flag deflection of "Big Al is mad". I find it all pretty funny.

You know what gets to me ? Is folks or trolls who come onto a Gibson Les Paul Forum and disparage all things Gibson . Let me backtrack and be diplomatic . Do fans of Gibson Les Paul's seek out Forums for Chinese made Guitars ? Or the such and start conversations touting how good Gibson's are at the expense of the host forums guitars ? No they do not . What are you trying to prove ? Folks that own authentic Gibson's have already forked out the $ for a real and authentic Gibson (and why wouldn't they ? ) Is ones personality so lacking that this is the highlight of there day , week , month , year, lifetime ? To intentionally set out to troll owners of Gibson guitars ? This is what does it for you ? Pathetic and get a life !

let me go into more detail

If you could purchase a Gibson historic which was the same quality with regards to EVERYTHING - woods / appearance / tone / nitro finish ./ fret work / construction details / case quality / electronics / pick-ups / warranty ....... etc ....

But it was made in China to an extremely high quality by master craftsman -
yes, given the above details.

the moderator of the Forum thanked me for posting the thread - so you get a life Dude !

and why should I care what big AL says about Historics - I have been around them for 20 years - been to the big guitar shows and probably seen more vintage Gibson then him at the Museum of MAKING MUSIC which has had special Gibson History exhibits. Hell they have a special exhibit about Les Paul going right now I have also seen with my own eyes which guitars the younger generation are drawn to and what they are listening to. Name me the biggest Les Paul guitar God since Slash ?

here is the link to that special show about Les Paul : https://www.museumofmakingmusic.org/exhibits

Again, make no mistake - there is no "argument" at all. China ruined the world. Here we are bickering back and forth fueled with hate and the obvious derangement syndrome - almost as if China wrote the book on war and has been doing it the longest...

Again, no argument. Don't get distracted. The world is in the Twilight Zone and they did it overnight, take a look around.

I thanked you for the post.

I have had some issues with some of the crap you have posted in the past,

But I am far from immune to that meself.

It's just most of mine are hopefully going a different direction than trying to piss people off.

But the original question is and was valid.

And in general the response (in pages!) has been good.

It is a good question.

Leaving aside the Chinese question, and the overt racism on display in this thread.

There are plenty of people on this sacrosanct forum who'll buy fakes within the same spec parameters as stated by the OP other than the fact that they're not endorsed by Gibson. One can even post pictures of them to an adoring section of this most discerning Forum, sans the fake Gibson headstock logo of course, as though that disassociates the platform they're afforded from said larceny in anything other than the most tissue thin sleight of hand way.

I don't believe any of them are made in China.

Glass houses don't lend themselves to stone throwing.

I'm English, Made in America means absolutely fuck all to me.

Furthermore, it was Us, the English who saved the Les Paul from the toilet, our bands that brought your revered iconic guitar back to life, and back to you.

You're fookin welcome.

I have never bought a fake. I have never entertained the thought. I have never bought a Chinese or Indonesian made guitar. My first guitar was given to me by my parents was a Memphis Les Paul copy. That's just me and I don't judge others if they do buy them. I do chuckle when someone says their (put country here) made guitar is just as good as a finely crafted guitar made in America.

.....and racism? Give me a fucking break. I love how folks will pull that bullshit out thinking it will shut down the other side. Well this pinko, Lefty Liberal, never voted Republican guy is calling you out on that.

Lastly, who was arguing about English rock stars and Les Pauls? Yeah, you all did help bring back the Burst along with reminding us about the Blues. I'm eternally grateful.

What would make you think that a guitar made in another country cant be equal or superior to one made in the United States ?

please explain that to me with fact or logic ........

they say a video is worth one million words

Purely the pride in ownership of the history of the brand, the quality it represents and wanting to support the actual people who build them. Just like wanting a Ferrari made in Italy.

Well, not to brag but I've been holding guitars for 38 years. I'm no Big Al or any of the other knowledgeable folks in this forum but I do know what I know.

I will admit thou that I have never been to the Les Paul museum. My bad.
