I’m lucky (or old) enough to have both USA production guitars and Historic re-issues. The re-issues took me years to acquire because I had to play an awful lot of them to find examples which justified the price!!!
In my opinion, Custom Shop guitars are not appreciably better (playing or sounding) than their USA counterparts. They feel and look different, yes, and they’re undoubtedly closer to vintage feel and spec, but as a lot of vintage guitars aren’t exceptional, it’s very much a matter of personal opinion as to whether modern re-issues are preferable. If you like attention to detail and fine finishing, go CS, but just for an excellent playing and sweet sounding instrument, it’s worth including USA production guitars in your search.
