• Guys, we've spent considerable money converting the Les Paul Forum to this new XenForo platform, and we have ongoing monthly operating expenses. THE "DONATIONS" TAB IS NOW WORKING, AND WE WOULD APPRECIATE ANY DONATIONS YOU CAN MAKE TO KEEP THE LES PAUL FORUM GOING! Thank you!

Hi everyone, new to the forum (though not to Gibson, have amassed some cool pieces over the years). I’m curious to hear from anyone who has ordered from Wilcutt in recent years (online specifically), and if their experiences for the most have been positive. I’m considering scooping up an R9 from them, and would just like some reassurance (no horror stories lol). I live up in Chicago, so Kindof my only option (online) without driving the near 7 hours lol. Was Kindof funny, was chatting with someone there through email, and never officially found out who it was (even after sending a response asking). Not sure if that’s normal with them lol.

Have you tried Chicago Music Exchange? Awesome selection of R9s.

I did, am waiting to here back (didn’t see anything specifically on the website that caught my interest). Will see if they have anything that’s not posted yet (am specifically looking for something in a flamier lemon burst/dirty lemon). Their online stock seems a lot more lackluster than normal. Also dealing with Music Gallery (a shop I have a long history with), but their stock didn’t yield anything I really gelled with (except a Murphy Lab, which I’m not really a fan of the relics-had to be a relic 🙄😅 lol). Was browsing wilcutts and came across some tops that were exactly what I was looking for (why their at the top of my list at the moment). Will see what CME says.

I have ordered a few guitars from Wilcutt. I have never had any issues. My last was a Silversky last year.

It's been a few years, but I have ordered a few guitars from Willcutt. Great service and if I remember correct, fast shipping. I would not hesitate ordering from them again.

If I lived in Chicago I would be on first name basis with the folks at Chicago Music Exchange . I have purchased a instrument from them a few years ago that I spotted in the shop during my in person visit after I got back home over the phone . The experience was Wonderful and I was very well taken care of .

Yes, I have dealt with them quite a few times, but they haven’t specifically had what I have been looking for (lots of plain top ‘58’s, and a few ‘59’s with tops that really aren’t doing anything for me). Contacted them today, and they said they don’t have anything on order in regards to the colors I’m interested in. Surprised since they usually have the most abundant selection when it comes to the custom shop, but not at the moment (though I think most shops are dealing with holes in their normal inventory now). Zeroed in on Wilcutt because they had exactly what I was looking for (in stock now). If CME or Music Gallery would’ve had anything of interest, wouldn’t be having this discussion right now 😅 (most of my collection came from these two shops lol).

I can respect that and certainly understand . Best Wishes !

I would definitely make sure any retailer you deal with, from whom you are buying sight unseen, that there is a good return policy (ie no restocking fees or nonsense like that)
I heard/read good reviews about Wilcutt, as well as Wildwood, CME , the Music Zoo ( who I use). Go with who you like. As long as you can return it if you hate it.
Just remember shipping charges are going through the roof recently. If you have to pay return shipping, you'll probably be looking at $150-$175.00

Has anyone on here run into any weird communication issues with Wilcutt? Was regularly communicating through email last week with someone over there (Eric-very cordial and pleasant), ending the last conversation with clarification of their policies, and if he could give me a quick run down of the guitar I’m interested in (he offered to plug it in and test run it if I wanted, since I emphasized I was nervous about ordering online) and all of a sudden everything went radio silence on Thursday. Have sent two more emails since then, and nothing. Going to give him the benefit that maybe he’s out of the shop until next week maybe, but was strange that no one responded back at all (communicated through the main email). Going to try calling if I don’t here back by Monday or Tuesday, but was just strange the dialogue was normal with quick responses, and then nothing (wasn’t technically the end of the work week). Is this out of the ordinary with them, or am I just reading into things lol (wasn’t sure if I was being ghosted for asking too many questions-one of those are you a serious buyer or not situations-came across a couple negative reviews of people who supposedly dealt with similar situations/concerns)? Out of principle I don’t want to have to chase people down under the current circumstances when it should be a fairly simple transaction at this point 🙄 lol (about 98% there anyway).

Just remember they have a business to run.

They do not have time for long drawn out conversations.

Some people converse like they want to be your "bestest bud" instead of just getting the business carried out.

Well that’s the things, I completely agree with you, and had no intention of dragging this out with any extending conversations lol, but considering the price of the guitar (‘59 reissue LP), and the fact I won’t be able to test it before hand, and considering they only give you 48 hours from delivery to generate a return on new items, wanted to cover as many concerns as I have to try and minimize any potential of a return. Again hopefully it’s just me overreacting (is a possibility 😆😅), I just thought it was odd (and again to reiterate, he offered to plug it in to give me his impressions). Would’ve preferred to deal with the two main shops I normally deal with up in Chicago (CME and Music Gallery), but they haven’t gotten anything in that’s wowed me like the stock Wilcutt has in right now, and I have inquired about future incoming stock with those shops, and nothing specifically of any interest at this time.

You're fortunate to be able to return a guitar without losing a large amount in shipping costs etc.
Us guys outside of the USA don't have that advantage if we buy direct........so it goes.

I'm a little late to this thread, but thought I'd jump in. I've only ordered one guitar from Wilcutt, a PRS. It is a great guitar, and their communication and service was fine. The only issue I had is that on their web page they understated the weight of the guitar--saying it was 7 lbs. 7 oz., when it actually turned out to be 8 lbs. That's not a difference due to scale variance. Maybe the weight was left from a description for a different guitar, I don't know. I've had similar issues with a few other online guitar purchases, but most sellers have been more accurate. I've bought several guitars from Wildwood, and their weights and descriptions of my guitars have been accurate, although I have seen inaccuracies in their descriptions of other guitars. Their customer service has also been superb.

I had a somewhat similar experience, only one time.

I purchased the guitar pictured in the first photo; 1 of a 20 limited edition run.

When my purchase arrived it was a different guitar (#09 of 20 made/pictured below) from the same limited run.
Even though they both have the same top color finish I was really pissed when I discovered I did not receive the guitar I agreed to purchase.
