Picked these up yesterday. My first 100 watt Marshall in probably 15 years. Super loud but it definitely has the Marshall tone. Pretty much original except for normal (recent) service. I’m using OD pedals and a Bugera 100 watt attenuator to tame the volume. I’ll probably need to invest in a better attenuator soon.

Classic. What else is there to say, congrats.

Ideas on the attenuator? UA?
Thanks.

I only know the Universal OX and Fryette PS-2 as being highly recommended. I’ve owned a Rockcrusher and a Dr Z Airbrake and neither worked for me.

Any ideas for a good attenuator of under $400?

Might as well try the lower end Bugera Power Soak PS1 is cheap $100 but effective, colors the tone some, so more twiddling to dial in with upping the T/M, and backing off gain.

Plenty of mid-cost options, but I think in for a penny, in for a UA.

How does the Marshall compare to your Boogie MK III when powering the 4x12 or using just the internal 1x12? Have you put the Marshall through the Boogie's 1x12? (I assume it's an EV, possibly a Black Shadow?)

Awesome! I have the B cab that looks just like that. I bought it for $400 at GC. It was tagged as 80s Marshall 4x12

I’ve never tried the Boogie (EVM-12L) with the new cab. I’m sure that it would sound good. I imagine the the EV would hold up with the Marshall fine. I forgot the wattage rating on the EV speaker.

A great deal. Now these are going for $1500.
Yeah, I have a head that it looked better on than my old JCM cabinet so it's win/win. Mine has greenback speakers in it but they're grey.

There is something about the old Marshall 4x12 cabs that just scream rock-n-roll! It may be the looks, but the the thump, bark, and sustain is in my book unmistakable and the queisential rock cab. MHO. I don’t currently own one, but this thread has got me thinking! Well done!

FWIW- there a full '71 100W checkerboard stack for sale on Boston Craigslist. In incredible shape for a good price. I'd buy it but I my back won't take the eighteen months sleeping on the couch.

I see THD is taking preorders for their new Hotplate, $525 is still a bit over your $400 budget but might be worth a look. You can check their Facebook page. Their manual says they will handle up to 185W, so should work fine with your Superlead.
