• Guys, we've spent considerable money converting the Les Paul Forum to this new XenForo platform, and we have ongoing monthly operating expenses. THE "DONATIONS" TAB IS NOW WORKING, AND WE WOULD APPRECIATE ANY DONATIONS YOU CAN MAKE TO KEEP THE LES PAUL FORUM GOING! Thank you!

They are not the pickups that were in it when I first saw it in the shop, in fact the shop was recently offering it with or without various available original parts? If you read the auction description, they state the guitar is currently fitted with the pickups and parts it had when the producer guy had it. I think the current owner must have removed the parts I saw? Still a great guitar, I am definitely going to bid.

There are a few threads here at the Les Paul Forum on 9 2318.
In my opinion, a re-top with period correct parts is worth only what the parts are worth - even if it plays and sounds great. (And the donor husk is not worth much at all in my opinion.)
Do keep us up-to-date on your quest.
If you do get the conversion, post some pictures in the Vintage 1952-1960 Les Paul pub where you are sure to get a much larger audience. You might even consider reposting your original inquiry there.
Good luck!
.

What does a reneck involve exactly?
Making a new neck or scavenging one from another guitar.

I don’t get retops. The point of a conversion is to get a 50s guitars retrofitted with PAFs and maybe a different finish and bridge so that it is basically a 50s burst or goldtop when you are done. If you replace the 1/2 wood then is it still even a 50s Gibson?
