• Guys, we've spent considerable money converting the Les Paul Forum to this new XenForo platform, and we have ongoing monthly operating expenses. THE "DONATIONS" TAB IS NOW WORKING, AND WE WOULD APPRECIATE ANY DONATIONS YOU CAN MAKE TO KEEP THE LES PAUL FORUM GOING! Thank you!

Corpse -

those Yarin are some of the finest LP type guitars the world will ever see ...

here is just an example ........ 3800 bucks to start and the guy is open to offers

nice year ,,,,,,, nice and light ... dark finger board ..... some horizontal flame .... a few tiny marks - and nice after market pups

if he would take 3600 - thats not so bad in this day and age

if these 58s with hide glue and custom buckers drop to about 3200 that makes them pretty sweet

I think buyers are about to find themselves in a fantastic situation

With all due respect, one or two “for sale” posts does not a market make. And cherry picking data points to promote an erroneous narrative is something better left to the Fake News propagandists.

Does this 2014 R8 listed for $5999 mean it’s a seller’s market?

Empirically it would seem the market for many discretionary items is contracting a bit after the free money boom. The weight of runaway inflation and monetary tightening can do that. But I wouldn’t call it a buyers market. Just a return to a bit more equilibrium.

Whiplash effect. The Fed/Congress pumped trillions into the economy, and now it's gone. I see soft prices in Porsche 911's and RVs, and it would not be a surprise to see the Custom Shop prices softening. Hence the "soft landing" narrative. Just realize we have never had a soft landing after such a huge monetary pump up. Right now it certainly pays to wait for a better deal. These moments don't come often and they are short lived. I would not mind having a second R9 and set it up for slide. Yes, that's it!

.

erroneous narrative ?

there are 58 reissues all over Reverb - 2013 and later - with custom buckers and hide glue

$ 3800 bucks or less and they are open to excepting "offers"

all things being equal you get even less if its 2012

they are just sitting - unsold

call it a buyers market - others call it the " Whiplash effect " .... still other call it " a return to equilibrium "

Says it's made of solid wood. That's a game changer.

I am seeing prices drop hard on used Historics - its a "buyers market "

Did Gibson over produce them ?

If this trend continues I am going to pick me out a "Honey Dew " of a Les Paul - a real sweetie .....
There are 2 historics near me for sale. Both are 2019. One is asking $300 less than a new one, the other is asking $200 more than a new one. Buyers market? lol

A casual observation: the emergence of Murphy Labs have taken away backlog from "normal" VOS Reissues... plus there are very few in Gloss.

So depending what you are shopping for, available guitars may seem alternatively abundant or scarce.

Overall, I don't think there's a glut, by any means... yet. We'll see how recession impacts.

And of course, all this whingeing -- it's all Righty Privilege

you might want to take another look on reverb - there are nothing but great deals

Just checked out Reverb for a custom shop 1959. They mostly ranged from $8,500 to 20k Canadian. Not at all what I would call a deal. There was one for $6,900 which would be an acceptable price. But if it aint local I aint interested. I need to have my hands on it first. This alone would likely exclude Reverb.

Agreed - everything is overpriced. Especially here in Canada, with duties, taxes and the exchange rate it's way too expensive to buy from the US.

I never look at guitars as an investment. If I want it and have the funds I buy it. Since 1961 I've owned exactly 80 guitars. I keep a little spreadsheet that shows what I paid for them, what I got for them on either resale or trade and the current value of the ones I have on hand. The grand total cost of all that, less current estimated values (based upon averaged out Reverb & Ebay sold listings) is about $650. All that includes some I've taken a beating on, and others I've madde a killing on. Buy the right stuff, it pays for itself.

I look at craigslist- other than pawn shops I am surprised by what folks spend their hard-earned jing on. Exactly why does someone need three or four SS practice amps.
OK I am gettign dangerously close to heresy here.
But you get me.

speaking of avocadoes - I recently planted a Reed variety - they are real honeys - being large and flavorful -
now I have 2 to 3 years to wait

it always amazes me what someone will ask for an avocado

I just sold an R4 in a few hours so I don’t think there is a lack of demand. I would love to find the right R9 but the only one that’s been up my ally locally is 6600 at GC and it’s been there at least a year.

I fail to see any deal on posted example , 58 with a very boring top no mineral flecks shadow flame , that piece of maples on chance of escaping the Custom shop is hitching a ride on a 58 going to Guitar Center , The burst shading looks like some twelve year old did with the help of Bob Ross . If the cracks chips dings what have you was done in a dimly lit basement or the product of I don't give F#%k he's $ 800.00 high . I just sold 4 Gibsons in the past 3 months and 3 amps on FB Ebay I felt very good with the prices other than the 2018 57 Junior with cracks nicks & dings . The Junior had Vintage Inspired Pots , vintage capacitor , Mojo Tone compensated nickel bridge Q pickup all the stock hardware & electronics . The final sale price on posted guitar example has very little to do with soft market IMO the market for used is strong .
