Hello all,

I am the proud owner of a new 60s with iced tea burst. It’s a beautiful guitar but after I got it home I noticed it had corrosion on the backplate screws.

Has anyone seen this before? I appreciate your help.

try wiping the screw with an alcohol swab . a lot of the time the "corrosion" is a waxy, rust coloured mixture of fake rust that will wipe right off. if not, then it appears the Custom Shop has progressed to actual rust ? Good Luck.

You thread title sounds like your LP is a Gibson USA LP Standard 60s. Not a Custom Shop with VOS treatment. Is that correct?

Are these the only metal parts that looked rusty? Is it all the screws? Can't really tell in teh pictures.

Open the control cavity and take a look inside. If there are signs of corrosion inside there, I would return the guitar. That would indicate a lot of moisture was in the guitar at some point.

If it is only control cover screws and nowhere else, I would contact Gibson, They most likely will replace those screws.

They replaced a full set of the Custom Shop VOS knobs for my Historic 335 after I cracked a knob. You cannot buy those knobs. That impressed me.

i love modern times.....................instead of taking it to the shop and having them switch out or clean, let me make a post to and gather the masses for a burning. The best is the people who start cussing and saying a company sucks.....
Gibson may or not be at fault or it my be the shop.....for all we know, the brand new member who posted this doesn't store or take care of his guitars, so before you light that torch stop and think

here we go again 🍿

Haha, wow. There’s no indication that he was going to do anything like what you’re suggesting here. The dude is asking a simple question to which you’re constructing quite the scenario in your head. Might want to take a moment to ponder your reply and ask yourself, “who is the one really holding the torch here?”.

Anyway, no, it’s not normal for a production level Gibson guitar. If it’s multiple screws, you’ll definitely want to pop open the back and check (as someone else suggested). If all is well, you love the guitar, and it’s brand new, I would call Gibson and see if they’ll send you some fresh screws. A few years ago, I bought a brand new LP with a bridge and tailpiece that were already cloudy and tarnished looking, and Gibson were kind enough to send over a brand new set upon my providing pictures of the problem.

Did his post change from the time he originally posted it and I read it? Because I’m not seeing it.:unsure:

I’m well aware of what you wrote; I can read. Did he change the post or not? That’s not difficult to understand.

If he changed the post, you may have a point. But if the post here is what he originally wrote, then you’re the one being incendiary and definitely raking the guy over the coals for absolutely nothing. As it stands, per what the OP currently states, the guy asked a simple question and nothing he said even slightly resembles what you’re barking at him about.

Which is it? Did he change it or not?

I cannot see anything in those pics. Could be rust, could be rubbing compound in slots or ????? Still you can get new screws at any Hardware store for pocket change. Nothing to worry about and it shouldn't be cause for worry. Simple fix for such a minor thing.

The dude did nothing but post a question whether it’s common to encounter what he’s seeing on his guitar. Your reaction was a tirade about people slagging companies on the internet, “gathering the masses for a burning”, so on and so forth, clearly accusing him of doing the same.

All because he did nothing but ask a simple question. But I’M the one “reaching to reach”. Sure, right. Whatever you say.
